With the Bank Holiday coming up, it's a good time to check you have enough of any essential medications to get you through the long weekend, when GP surgeries will be closed.

Most surgeries require at least 3 working days, and your local pharmacy may not be able to dispense the medicine straight away depending on how busy they are and what they have in stock, so please plan accordingly.

The NHS App makes it quick and easy to request your medications any time.

An amber heat-health alert is in place across parts of England from today until 14 August.

During an amber alert, hot weather can put more people’s health at risk – not just those who are usually more vulnerable.

Older people, young children and people with existing health conditions may be particularly at risk.

Take extra care and look out for others who may struggle in the heat.

Before you book a GP appointment for your child this summer, think pharmacy first 💊

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer advice and treatment for a wide range of minor illnesses.

The Pharmacy First service means participating pharmacies can also provide prescription treatment for these common conditions without you needing to see a GP:

👂 Earache for children aged 1–17
🦟 Infected insect bites for anyone aged 1 and over
🩹 Impetigo for anyone aged 1 and over
🤒 Sore throats for people aged 5 and over
👃 Sinusitis for people aged 12 and over

Learn how to protect your eyes whilst watching the partial solar eclipse!

We probably shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight – so you need to take care. Remember, your normal sunglasses may look great, but they won't cut it.

Follow the link to learn more about how to watch the eclipse safely!
