St Mary's Hospice

St Mary's Hospice Thanks to our community we can continue to make a difference when it matters most At St Mary's care is provided free of charge, but it is not cost free.

St Mary's Hospice is the dedicated provider in South Cumbria of comprehensive specialised supportive and palliative care for people with advancing illness. Our facilities and services are available to all adults who are facing the end of life, and to their families, carers and the bereaved. Patients with life limiting illnesses are cared for at the Hospice, as inpatients or by attendance at day cl

inics or therapy sessions, and - increasingly - at home. We care for patients facing the end of life, regardless of diagnosis, and for those who love them. Patients and carers may access our holistic programmes, addressing physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, at any stage of an illness. Just to maintain our current services costs around £3.5 million a year.

Later today, Jackie Butler will be taking on a sky dive in aid of St Mary's Hospice!

Jackie is truly inspiring, for each milestone birthday, she pushes herself to do something that takes her well outside her comfort zone.

This year's challenge is especially meaningful, as Jackie is skydiving in memory of Derek, who was cared for by St Mary's Hospice during the final week of his life.

There's still time to support Jackie before she takes the leap. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us continue providing vital care and support to local patients and their families.

Thank you, Jackie, and the very best of luck from everyone at St Mary's Hospice. 💜

💗 Walk to Remember is officially at full capacity! 💗

Our main event and reserve list are now completely full, and everyone who has been allocated a place from the reserve list has been contacted.

For health and safety reasons, we have a strict limit on the number of walkers we can welcome on the night, so unfortunately we cannot accept anyone who does not have a confirmed place.

To have sold out more than three months early and then fill our reserve list too is a wonderful reflection of the support within our community. Thank you so much.💗

Missed out this time? Walk to Remember 2027 registration will open in mid-September, keep an eye on our page so you don’t miss your chance to join us next year! ✨

Earlier this week, we were delighted to attend the Hawkshead Agricultural Show! It was a brilliant opportunity to see our South Lakes community and share more about the support we offer as we continue to expand our presence across the area.

It was also lovely to catch up with some familiar faces! Pictured with our team is Jeff Gaskell, who climbed Everest Base Camp for St Mary’s! And our friends from local businesses- Adam Jackson Ltd and Shed One, Ulverston, great to see you!

If you’d like to find out more about the groups, activities and support available through St Mary’s, take a look at our website or follow our St Mary's Hospice Community Hub for the latest updates.

A lovely community day all round, thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello! 🙌 💜

🌸 A huge thank you to Barrow Island Allotment Association! 🌸

They have once again held their fantastic Barrow Island Flower Show, this year raising an incredible £800 for St Mary’s Hospice!

It was such a pleasure to meet these lovely people again and hear about the tremendous amount of time, care and effort that goes into making their fundraising events such a success.

From selling beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables grown on their allotments, to baking the most gorgeous homemade cakes, their generosity and community spirit truly shone through.

With 10 allotments taking part, the day was a wonderful celebration of everything that makes a community so special. 🌷🥕🍰

The Committee said:
“We were more than happy to make this donation to St Mary’s again. It is a local charity so close to so many people’s hearts. We would like to say a special thank you to Barrow Island Community and Sports Trust Ltd for letting us use their facilities free of charge on the day.”

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, sold their wonderful produce, baked cakes, helped organise the event and, of course, to everyone who came along and supported the show. Your kindness means so much to us. ❤️

And there’s even more exciting news… they’ve already planned next year’s sale! 🎉

📅 Please mark 22 August 2027 in your diaries!

We cannot wait to see you all again. Thank you, Barrow Island Allotment Association, for being such wonderful supporters of St Mary’s. Your generosity, hard work and community spirit are truly inspiring! 🌸💜

We were thrilled to receive a staggering £1,120 from Brian Hurley last week.

Brian recently won a Holker Association Golf Association trip and he had the privilege of choosing which charity would benefit from donations made by the members. We were incredibly touched and grateful that Brian chose St Mary’s Hospice.💜

A huge and heartfelt thank you to Brian and to all the members who contributed to this fantastic donation. Your generosity and support mean so much to everyone at St Mary’s.

Pictured at Furness golf club are Brian Hurley, Jim Capstick, Captain, and Heidi Bowron, Area Fundraiser.

Brian said, “this is a fantastic organisation that supports those that most need them when they most need it. They provided care to a family member in her last days and for this we will be forever thankful.”

Thank you, Brian, and thank you to everyone involved. We are truly, truly grateful. 💜 ⛳️
