A little midweek quick tip

Frozen spinach is one of my handy freezer staples—especially for adding some extra veg to curries and pasta dishes

No chopping, use what you need, and no bag of leaves quietly wilting at the back of the fridge ... I know its not just me that forgets that I brought it 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just add it in and cook according to the packet instructions

Eating well around a busy life doesn’t have to mean making everything from scratch. Having a few useful shortcuts can make it easier.

TUESDAY TRIVIA

Which nutrient does your body rely on most heavily to fuel high-intensity exercise?

A) Protein
B) Carbohydrate
C) Fat
D) Fibre

The answer is… B — CARBOHYDRATE!

Carbohydrates sometimes get a bad reputation, particularly when it comes to weight loss and body composition.

But when you're training hard, they're an incredibly important fuel source!

🏃‍♀️ Running
🥊 Boxing
🏋️‍♀️ Strength training
🚴‍♀️ High-intensity exercise

As exercise intensity increases, your body generally relies more heavily on carbohydrates to help meet its energy demands.

When we eat carbohydrates, some are stored as glycogen in our muscles and liver, ready to be used when needed.

And while fat also plays an important role in providing energy, carbohydrates are particularly valuable when your body needs to produce energy quickly.

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

You don't need to avoid carbohydrates to improve your body composition.

In fact, consistently under-fuelling your training can make it harder to perform well, recover and make progress.

The key is ensuring your nutrition supports YOUR activity levels, training demands and goals

🥔 Potatoes
🍚 Rice
🍌 Bananas
🥣 Oats
🍝 Pasta

All perfectly good carbohydrate sources that can form part of a balanced diet.

Fuel your training. Don't fear carbs

Celebrating wins when they come … weight made for one of the boxers I work with 🥊

Knew weight had been made the day before but until it’s official on the day there’s always a nervous wait for that message to say it’s done

As much as I would love to be there for every single weigh in & bout it’s not always possible

Thank you for choosing me to be part of the team & being part of the journey 🥊

BOXERS this one is for you!

🥊 You put the work in at the gym - Is your nutrition getting the same attention?

Whether you box for fitness or compete, start with the basics:

🍚 Fuel your training—carbs have a place on your plate
🍳 Include protein with each meal
💧 Give hydration attention throughout the day
⚖️ If you compete, plan ahead for making weight rather than leaving it to the final week
🔁 Focus on habits you can repeat—consistency over perfection

Your nutrition should work around your training, goals and everyday life. It doesn’t need to be complicated to be practical

Need help putting those basics into practice?

TUESDAY TRIVIA — TRUE OR FALSE?

"Eating more frequently throughout the day speeds up your metabolism."

Did you say TRUE or FALSE? 👀

The answer is… ❌ FALSE

There's a common belief that eating little and often will "fire up" your metabolism and help you burn more calories.

But that's not quite how it works!

Your body does use energy to digest, absorb and process food. This is known as the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF)

However, eating 6 smaller meals doesn't automatically mean you'll burn more calories than eating 3 larger meals, assuming your overall calorie and nutrient intake is the same.

So does it matter how often you eat?

Absolutely — just not necessarily for your metabolism

Meal frequency can influence:

🍽️ Hunger and fullness
⚡ Energy levels
🏋️ Training performance and recovery
📅 How manageable your nutrition feels around everyday life

For some people, three balanced meals work perfectly

For others, smaller meals and snacks throughout the day make it easier to meet their nutritional needs

Neither approach is automatically better ... but whichever approach you take needs to work FOR YOU!

And that's something I regularly reinforce through my nutrition coaching…

Your nutrition should work around your lifestyle, not dictate it

You don't need complicated food rules or rigid meal timings to make progress

Focus on fuelling your body, meeting your nutritional needs and building habits you can maintain

Be honest — did you think eating more often boosted your metabolism?

Episode 2 of the Cauldron Cooking …

Witch’s Chicken & Veg Curry

Ingredients
500g chicken breast or thigh, diced
1 onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 thumb-sized piece ginger, grated
2 peppers, sliced
1 x 400g tin chickpeas, drained
1 x 400g tin chopped tomatoes
200ml light coconut milk
2 tbsp curry paste or 2 tsp curry
powder
2 large handfuls spinach
Basmati rice or Naan Bread, to serve

Method
1. Cook the onion in a little oil until softened, then add
garlic and ginger.
2. Add chicken and cook until lightly browned.
3. Stir through curry paste or spices, peppers, chickpeas,
tomatoes and coconut milk.
4. Simmer for 20-25 minutes, until the chicken is cooked
through.
5. Stir in spinach until wilted and serve with rice OR naan bread

You don’t have to be a witch or have a cauldron to make this … a slow cooker or saucepan works well too
