Hope you are all having a wonderful bank holiday!

I have had a flurry of new followers which is wonderful. As I recognize many will have some questions about how hypnosis works in my sessions, I am going to open up a 15 minute complimentary session option in my practice, to help any potential clients explore any questions they may have prior to booking. These can be either via zoom or by phone. Feel free to email me to get a call arranged at [email protected].

Why does hypnotherapy work so well?

The brain is incredibly adaptable. Thanks to something called neuroplasticity, it’s constantly reshaping itself based on our thoughts, experiences, and behaviours. And this is exactly where hypnotherapy comes in.
Contrary to what we might have seen on TV or on stage, hypnotherapy isn’t about losing control or being “put under.”
It’s actually a calm, focused state where your mind becomes quieter… and more open.

In that space:

• The constant mental chatter softens
• Your nervous system begins to settle
• And your brain becomes more receptive to change

From a neuroscience point of view, a few powerful things are happening:
🧠 The part of the brain responsible for overthinking and worry quietens down
🧠 Brainwaves shift into a more relaxed, receptive state (similar to deep meditation)
🧠 The brain becomes less reactive and more open to new perspectives

This is why change can feel so different in hypnotherapy.
You’re not just thinking differently, you’re beginning to experience things differently at a deeper level.

And here’s the key part…

Most of the patterns that keep us stuck aren’t logical.

They were learned earlier in life and stored beneath conscious awareness.

So simply “thinking differently” often isn’t enough.
Hypnotherapy works at the level where those patterns actually live.
It allows you to gently rehearse new ways of responding, until they start to feel natural.
Because the brain loves familiarity.
And what feels familiar, becomes your new default.

✨ Often the shift doesn’t just happen in the session either.
Your brain continues processing and integrating afterwards, which is why changes can unfold over days or weeks.
It’s a really powerful reminder that change doesn’t have to be forced.
When the right internal conditions are there, the brain already knows how to adapt.
And even long standing patterns can begin to shift.

I so often work with women who, until menopause, have never experienced anxiety at all. Then suddenly, alongside the physical changes, anxiety appears out of nowhere. This can be incredibly unsettling and deeply confusing.

It can feel frightening and unfair, especially when it arrives at a time when, lets face it, life is already full with work, home, possibly teenagers, relationships, and often ageing parents needing support. Let's also not forget the physical symptoms you may be experiencing with menopause!

My clients are often left feeling utterly exhausted, overwhelmed, and wondering “why now?”

If any of this resonates, please know there is nothing wrong with you and you don’t have to manage it alone. You’re very welcome to reach out for an informal, no-pressure chat to see whether I may be able to help.

Anxiety during menopause can feel overwhelming. Hypnotherapist Soraya Mansour explores how hormonal change and the subconscious mind may be connected, and what support can help. 💬 http://ow.ly/2BVI106uhV6

For anyone who has ever experienced anxiety (me included), you know that you feel it everywhere. Its felt in your chest, the way you breath, how you hold your shoulders, even in your digestive system. It affects the way you sleep, how you function at work, whether you socialise or perhaps avoid socialising altogether? Making decisions becoming overwhelming. Everything really is affected and frankly its exhausting.

The way I work is pretty straightforward but has the added benefit of using CBT techniques alongside hypnosis. The CBT side helps you notice the thought patterns that keep the anxiety going (the overthinking, the constant “what ifs,” essentially the automatic reactions your brain slips into when it’s under pressure.). The hypnosis side helps your body calm down. It uses a very natural, relaxed but focused state. I liken it to the kind you drift into when you’re daydreaming or really absorbed in something or when you just begin to dozily wake up in the morning. It’s a place where your nervous system can finally step out of high alert and out of fight or flight. When your body settles, your mind usually does too.

Through working together, we can get you to a place where you feel steadier day to day. Less tense, less on edge and in turn more able to respond rather than react.

It’s not a case that you need fixing, you absolutely don’t as you’re not broken. Sometimes your system just needs a little help coming out of survival mode.

So if anxiety has been taking up too much space in your life, CBH can help you feel more like yourself again. Please do get in touch if I can help. The easiest way to reach me is by email to [email protected]. I offer in person sessions in St Helier and St Peter and also via zoom if preferable.
