We help complementary therapists keep learning, gain confidence, and build sustainable practices through CPD, business support and community. You also need confidence, business know-how, up-to-date skills and people you can turn to when you get stuck. You don’t have to know everything already, or piece it all together by yourself. You’ll find practical learning and down-to-earth support to help you take your next step. We understand that you may work alone, but you don’t necessarily want to learn and develop alone. What does your business need to support?
Before deciding how many clients you want, which treatments to offer or what your prices should be, it helps to consider the life your business needs to fit into.
Start with these six areas:
Income
How much does the business need to contribute towards your household, savings and future plans?
Working hours
When do you genuinely want to work? Remember to include administration, preparation and marketing—not only the hours spent with clients.
Family commitments
Are there people, responsibilities or important occasions you need your working pattern to accommodate?
Holidays
How much time would you like to take away from the business each year—and has this been included in your financial planning?
Rest
Where will you create space to recover physically and mentally? Therapists need looking after too, even if we are rather good at putting ourselves at the bottom of the list.
Enjoyable work
Which treatments, clients and parts of the business give you energy rather than leaving you watching the clock?
These answers will influence your availability, prices, services and the number of appointments your business needs.
There is no single correct version of a successful therapy business. The important thing is to build one that supports what matters to you.

It's been nearly 6 months since we closed the doors at Warner's Farm, and we are really missing not just each other but the laughter and fun we had teaching our therapists.
Today we had a rather overdue coffee and catch-up and plotted the next phase of the business.

What do you think about a monthly 'virtual' meet-up?
I know it's not the same, but we would love to find out how our therapists (and others) are getting on.

Thinking the name of the event would be the 'Phoenix Lounge'

We could have the
☕️ Phoenix Morning Coffee Lounge
🫖 Phoenix Afternoon Tea Lounge
🍷 Phoenix Evening W**e Lounge
and of course the 🍰 Phoenix Cake Lounge

Let us know what you think.....

A busy diary is not automatically the same as a successful business.
It can certainly look successful from the outside. Lots of appointments, very few gaps and barely enough time to drink the cup of tea you made three hours ago.
But is that what you actually want your business to provide?
Perhaps success means earning a particular amount without working every evening.
It might mean having enough flexibility for family commitments, holidays, your own health or simply some proper time away from work.
It could mean seeing fewer clients while offering the treatments you most enjoy—or creating a mixture of treatments, teaching and other work that suits you better.
A full diary might be part of your goal, but it doesn’t have to be the goal.
Take a moment to consider:
• What income does your business need to contribute?
• How many hours do you genuinely want to work?
• When do you want to be available—and unavailable?
• What would you like your business to make possible outside work?
• Which treatments and clients leave you feeling most fulfilled?
When you know what you want the business to support, it becomes much easier to make decisions about your prices, availability, services and marketing.
Otherwise, it is very easy to find yourself busily building somebody else’s version of success.
What would a successful therapy business make possible for you?

When you’re thinking about improving your therapy business, it’s easy to start with whatever is shouting loudest, usually social media, waving its arms about!

Before adding another job to your list, try following the steps a potential client takes: can they understand what you offer, find the information they need and book easily? Then consider what happens after their appointment: do they know how to book again?

Picking one gap to work on gives you a clearer starting point than trying to improve everything at once.

Sometimes, though, it’s difficult to spot those gaps when you’re in the middle of it all. That’s why I’ve created the Therapy Business Blueprint quiz.

The questions help you look at your business foundations, visibility and marketing, client experience, and how you encourage clients to return and recommend you. Your result highlights your strengths and a priority area to focus on, with follow-up emails to help you make sense of it.

Whether you’re just starting or have been treating clients for years, you don’t have to have everything sorted before taking it.
Finding out what needs attention is the whole point.

Phoenix has been training therapists since 2001, but this year the business entered a very different chapter.

When we closed the classroom-based side of Phoenix in May, it would have been easy to rush straight into filling the space it left behind.

Instead, I have had to return to the same questions I encourage other therapists to consider:
Who are we here to support now?
What do therapists need from us?
When and how can we provide that support?
Where will that learning and community take place?
Why does this next chapter matter?

Going back to your foundations doesn’t mean that the business you built before was wrong.

Sometimes the business changes. You change. Your clients change. What people need from you changes too.

For Phoenix, those questions have helped us become clearer about our future: supporting complementary therapists through CPD, business development and community.

I am still working through parts of it. There has been plenty of learning, experimenting, and the occasional conversation beginning with, “I’ve had another idea…”

But the clearer the foundations become, the easier it is to decide what belongs in the next chapter, and what doesn’t.
When did you last step back and reconsider the foundations of your business?

If your therapy business feels like a jigsaw puzzle without the picture on the box, begin by finding the corners and edges.

These five questions will help:
WHO do you most want to support?
Try to be more specific than “everyone”. Think about the people you understand, enjoy helping and are well placed to support.
WHAT do you want to offer?
Which treatments, services or areas of support belong in the business you are building now—not simply the business you originally imagined?
WHEN do you want to work?
Consider your preferred hours, other responsibilities, holidays and the time needed to run the business as well as deliver treatments.
WHERE will you work?
This might include a treatment room, home visits, rented space, online support or a combination.
WHY does this business matter to you?
Your answer can help you make decisions when a new opportunity, course or shiny idea comes wandering past.
You don’t need perfect answers. You need a starting point that gives your next decisions some direction.
