During a heatwave the lymphatic system works so much harder. High temperatures cause blood vessels to dilate leading to more fluid escaping into the tissues.

Combined with dehydration and slower natural movement our lymphatic drainage network can become overwhelmed.

Clearly hydration is key just as it is for my hydrangeas which can’t get enough water right now.

Deep diaphragmatic breathing to naturally stimulate lymphatic flow.

Elevation, lift your arms and legs throughout the day to use gravity to help fluids drain back towards your heart.

Cool showers and air conditioning if you are fortunate enough to have it to keep your temperature from spiking.

And finally if you are lucky enough to own the The Lymphatic Brush then use them every day to perform Manual lymphatic drainage and you will see a huge difference.
MLD reduces heat related puffiness, bloating and swollen limbs. Light rhythmic strokes with minimal pressure. It’s about connection not pressure.

The Lymphatic Brush doesn’t like oil. You want to ensure that your skin is cleansed and free of product. If your skin is really dry a water based serum just gives it a little extra hydration.

Gua sha tools love oil. Not too much but enough to provide the necessary ’slip’ allowing the stone to glide across your face and body. Without oil the tool will drag your skin causing damage.

How often should you use both products?

I’ve used my brushes religiously every single day for the past 3 years since they were launched. You can’t overuse them.

When you start using a gua sha it’s OK to get into the practice of using it every day to allow your skin to get used to it and reap the benefits. Following the first week then 3 x a week is just perfect.

I typically brush in the morning and gua sha in the evening but there are no rules. Do what works for you.

The brush on the right is a dupe. One of the many fakes that has tricked people into believing that they are buying a tool that will provide lymphatic drainage at a bargain price.
The fakes have been made with unknown materials which have been causing allergic reactions and skin sensitivity. They have been made with absolutely no understanding of the complexity of what the tool is actually supposed to do. These brushes simply move the surface of the skin. Some bristles are so soft like a make up brush and others feel like they are scratching the skin.

The original patented design bristles, have been specifically tensioned to move lymph. It allows precise movements on the skin gently stimulating lymphatic circulation while supporting the body’s natural detox.

If you swipe left to the last photo the fake brush is being compared to a gua sha tool. Gua sha allows lymphatic flow releasing stagnation. It is not a tool for lymphatic drainage. They promote their fake brush as a 90 second protocol. Again a testament that they have no clue what there are talking about.

I was asked recently - What is the difference between the brushes sold on Amazon and Cecily Braden’s? Hopefully the above answers your questions…..

This isn’t a post to scare anyone but just to emphasise the importance of checking moles or any skin changes.

is the leading UK charity dedicated to the prevention and early detection of skin cancer.
Last year I completed Skcin’s Masced (Melanoma and Skin Cancer early detection) training programme. They have trained thousands of industry professionals like myself with many lives saved as a result.

After recently seeing a Dermatologist as I was concerned about a changing ‘nodule’ on my chest, today a Plastic Surgeon removed the culprit which will be sent away to be tested. I am confident that I acted fast and all will be OK. A scar on my chest is the least of my worries and a reminder to check regularly.

In my treatment room I have seen quite a few cases of moles which appear to have changed shape or other lesions which may look as if they require attention. Clients would prefer to be made aware as left untreated they can spread and in some cases become fatal. One in five develop skin cancer in the UK. Melanoma is the deadliest form of the disease.
