Summer feet fact number two!!

Did you know? Your feet can swell by up to half a shoe size in hot weather. As temperatures rise, your blood vessels expand, which can leave your feet feeling hot, heavy and uncomfortable.

If the heat has left your feet feeling tired, treat yourself to a relaxing complementary therapy session. Whether you're on your feet all day or just feeling the effects of the warm weather, it's the perfect way to unwind and give your hardworking feet some well-deserved care.

Summer feet fact number one!!

Take your shoes off... your feet will thank you!
Walking barefoot on natural surfaces can gently stimulate the soles of your feet and help you feel more connected to nature. Pair that with a relaxing reflexology treatment, and you're giving your body time to unwind from the inside out.

👩‍🍼 Did you know that babies are born with automatic movement patterns called primitive reflexes?

👶 These reflexes, like the startle response and the grasping reflex, are essential for survival and neurological development in the first months of life.

📚 When they integrate properly, they lay the foundation for posture, focus, learning, and emotional regulation.

🧠 When they don't, challenges like attention difficulties, poor coordination, and learning struggles can follow.

✨ At RMTi, understanding reflexes is where everything begins.

We can also measure heart rate now when clients wear fitness watches. Which show how their heart rate reduces to levels equivalent those rates when at sleep.

Have you ever noticed yourself taking a long, deep breath during reflexology, even though you weren’t consciously trying to?

At the beginning of a session, your breathing may still be quite quick or shallow. As you become comfortable, feel less distracted and realise that nothing is expected of you for the next while, it may begin to soften naturally.

When we are busy, worried or rushing, the body can remain in a more alert state. As we begin to relax, the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system becomes more active. This is the part associated with rest, recovery and settling after stress.

Reflexology gives you a period of stillness, supportive touch and focused attention, away from phones, jobs and everyday demands. For some people, that environment makes it easier to unwind, and a change in breathing may simply be one of the ways that relaxation shows itself. Some studies have recorded changes in heart-rate variability following foot reflexology or foot massage, suggesting possible short-term changes in autonomic activity.

As reflexologists, we often notice the moment a client releases a long breath or lets out a little sigh. We don’t see it as something they need to make happen. It is simply a lovely sign that they may be feeling more comfortable and allowing themselves to settle.

Not everyone’s breathing changes, and there is no “correct” way to respond to a treatment. Some people become very still, some chat for a while, and others take most of the session to properly relax. All of that is completely normal.

You don’t need to concentrate on your breathing or try to switch off. Just get comfortable and let your body find its own pace. 💜

Just a quick update on progress to all my clients.

I am nearly 5 weeks post surgery (tomorrow is 5 weeks).

I am gettig plenty of steps in, usually 9,10 or even 11,000 steps in. Which is better than what I did pre surgery!! 😜

Doing my exercises like a good girl. Now including ankle weights.

My 6 week check up is 7/5, and I have physio the day before, so after that I will have a better idea when I can actually resume work. I am thinking it’s more realistic to plan for the week beginning 18/5 (8 weeks as physio has suggested this to start going back gradually) for clients working from home, and for schools after the May half term. But will know more after 7/5.

Anyway I was pleased to finally see some nice weather this past week so that I could actually sit out in the sun! ☀️ I’ve also been appreciating all the beautiful flowers in full bloom on my walks each day and our Cherry tree at the front of our house which is now blossoming too.

Once again I would like to say a huge thank you to all my clients, friends and family, for visiting and all the lovely messages, cards, thoughtful gifts. It really has kept my spirits up.
