Urgent - our computer system has gone down across the whole of Wales. We cannot access patient notes. This is out of our control. If you have an urgent medical problem please contact 01291 672633. We will advise when we are back up and running **

💕💕From the bottom of our hearts we want to thank our lovely patients for working with us this week during the unprecedented heat at the surgery.

We are really grateful that patients supported us in only contacting us or coming to us if it was urgent. This helped us to manage the demand of poorly patients with lower staffing levels and enabled us to allow our staff to work shorter shifts and have extra breaks 💕💕

Keep safe everyone

In this hot weather, please take care of yourself and others. Most of us can enjoy the hot weather safely, but please look out for those who are more vulnerable during the heatwave.

The main risks posed by a heatwave are:
• not drinking enough water (dehydration)
• overheating, which can make symptoms worse for people who already have problems with their heart or breathing
• heat exhaustion and heatstroke
• sunburn

A heatwave can affect anyone, but the most vulnerable people are older people (especially those over 75) and young children. Please think about:
• those who live on their own or in a care home
• people who have a serious or long term illness – including heart or lung conditions, diabetes, kidney disease, Parkinson's disease or some mental health conditions
• those who may find it hard to keep cool – babies and the very young, the bed bound, those with drug or alcohol addictions or with Alzheimer's disease
• people who spend a lot of time outside or in hot places – those who live in a top floor flat, the homeless or those whose jobs are outside

Today, on International Nurses Day, The Usk Surgery would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our wonderful nursing team.

Our nurses play an essential role in caring for patients and supporting families within our community. Their compassion, professionalism, skill, and dedication are at the heart of everything we do.

Every day, they go above and beyond to provide reassurance, kindness, and outstanding care to our patients, often during some of life’s most difficult moments. We are incredibly proud to work alongside such committed and caring professionals.

To our nurses — thank you for everything you do for our patients, our practice, and our community. Your hard work and dedication are truly valued and appreciated. 💙
