Recently, we had the honour of conducting the funeral of a much loved, hardworking farmer, Arthur Ede.

Arthur was a farmer through and through. Farming wasn’t simply Arthur’s occupation; it was his way of life, a passion that was passed down through generations of his close family.

For Arthur’s final journey, his coffin rested on a beautifully restored farm trailer, lovingly created by his grandson, Kieran.

Having grown up with his grandad on the family farm, Kieran wanted Arthur’s final journey to reflect the life he had lived and loved. He transformed the trailer into a beautifully fitting tribute by adding a soft grass bed, handcrafted wooden decking and fixings. Arthur’s favourite tractor then led him on one last journey through Ashbourne and on to Brassington – a sight that touched the hearts of so many who stopped for a moment to pay their respects.

It was a farewell that could not have reflected Arthur more perfectly. Simple, personal and deeply rooted in the farming life he cherished.

In Arthur’s memory, Kieran has very kindly decided to offer this trailer to other families who may wish to honour their loved one with a similar final journey.

Families will have the choice of hiring the trailer together with Kieran’s vintage tractor, or, if they have a particular tractor that holds special meaning to their family, the trailer can be hired separately for their own tractor to pull.

It offers a truly unique and meaningful tribute, particularly for those whose lives have been shaped by farming, the countryside, or a love of the land.
