Write A Bedtime Story For A Dog

Uttoxeter Osteopathic Centre invites young writers from Uttoxeter to enter our exciting story competition!

Can you write a bedtime story that a dog would love to hear before going to sleep at night?

Story length : Approximately 500 words ( 400 - 600 words accepted)

Theme : A gentle, imaginative bedtime story for a dog.

Selected winning entries will:
Be published in our special Doggy Bedtime Story Book
Have the author’s name included in the book
Receive a certificate of achievement

EVERY child who enters will be invited to our special celebration party!

Why am I doing this?
I want to encourage children to enjoy reading, writing and sharing stories with their dogs. Reading aloud helps build confidence, imagination and creates wonderful bonding moments between children and their pets.

Who can enter? Children aged 6 to 12

Closing Date : 25th August 2026

How to enter : E-mail [email protected]
or in hand to: Uttoxeter Osteopathic Centre

So, grab a pencil, cuddle up with your dog and create a story full of dreams, adventures and wagging tails!

We can’t wait to read your story!

Happy Writing!

Supporting Competition Advice For Parents And Children

This competition combines creativity, literacy, connection with pets and community involvement.
Selected stories will be published in a bedtime story book for dogs which gives children a real goal to work towards, and the celebration party means every child who enters feels valued.

Research shows that reading aloud builds children’s confidence and literacy skills. Dogs are wonderful, non-judgemental listeners, making reading time fun and relaxed. So, while this competition is fun and heart-warming it also has an educational purpose.

A few suggestions for success:

Consider themes such as: friendship, adventures, kindness, nature, dreams and comfort.

Submit a drawing of your dog (or imaginary dog) alongside the story.
These could be included in the book.

I am looking for: Best Story
Funniest Story
Most Imaginative Story
Best Young Writer

There is no cost for entering this competition and you can enter more than one story if you feel inspired with other story ideas, however all stories MUST be your own idea.
