BA (hons), MSc, GM/BPS

Mum to 3 kids, 2 horses, a dog, a cat and a husband. I worked in Early Years for many years but it never quite ticked my boxes. I was always looking for something more, a way to relate to the children and families I worked with in a holistic way. This is it, I finally found my Jam. I love being in the woods, or at the beach, family walks and generally sucking up the benefits of being outdoors. Bloom Family Wellbeing was born! Holistic parent & baby classes with a difference, baby massage, baby yoga, guided meditation, workshops, masterclasses, creating the calm in a nurturing space. Parenting is never perfect, unfortunately children don't come with manuals, but lets support each other and recreate the village.

Let's talk attachment!

At some point in your life you've likely heard of this term, but how much of a profound effect does attachment have throughout a person's life?

The attachments formed in infancy and childhood follow a person their whole life. It is possible to change your attachment style but it is very hard work and on average takes around 4 years.

If children grow up with a anxious attachment styles or avoidant styles they may really struggle with people and building relationships through out their life.

An anxious style may mean they fall in love easily or with the wrong person, get in with the wrong crowd because they get the attention they crave. They may struggle to meet the right person in a loving relationship because they can't meet their needs.

An avoidant style may mean that person can never truly be themselves or open up to someone. They hold people constantly at arms length. There's always a feeling of protecting themselves even when they don't need to and are often stuck in fight or flight mode.

I want to support people to have secure attachments. And one way to do this is from infancy. Attending baby classes where you truly get to be one being with your child creates this environment. This is where the beginning of your babies attachment style formed.

Do you want classes like this in your area? I'm happy to do them but in the past there has been no uptake. Which is such a shame as they really do offer the best start for children.

Please comment on this post if this is something you want in your area and I'll organize it.

Heads up, it's a long one 😅

💛 ADHD, masking & finding your way back to yourself — where can EFT fit in?

For many people with ADHD, life can become a cycle of masking → overwhelm → self-criticism → shame → self-sabotage → masking again.

You learn to watch yourself closely.

You learn what is “acceptable”.

You try to remember to sit still, listen properly, respond in the “right” way, control your emotions, be productive, be organised, not forget things, not interrupt, not talk too much, not be “too much”.

And over time, masking can become so automatic that you can lose touch with something really important:

Yourself.

💭 “Who am I when I’m not trying to be what everyone else needs me to be?”

💭 “What do I actually like?”

💭 “What do I actually need?”

💭 “What am I feeling?”

💭 “Why do I keep doing things that I know aren't good for me?”

And this is where it gets interesting.

People with ADHD can become incredibly knowledgeable about ADHD. They may read the books, listen to the podcasts, watch the videos and understand the dopamine system, executive functioning, rejection sensitivity, emotional dysregulation and masking inside out.

They can become experts in understanding their ADHD…

…and still feel completely disconnected from who they are.

Because knowing about yourself isn't always the same as feeling yourself.

🌿 This is where EFT can offer another layer of support.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can provide a gentle opportunity to slow down, come out of the constant thinking and begin noticing what is happening within the body and emotions.

Instead of immediately asking:

“Why am I doing this?”

We can begin with:

“What am I feeling right now?”

“Where do I feel it in my body?”

“What do I need?”

“What am I afraid would happen if I stopped masking?”

“When did I learn that this part of me wasn't acceptable?”

Through tapping and gentle exploration, we can start bringing attention back to those internal signals that may have been ignored, overridden or drowned out by years of adapting.

This can be particularly meaningful when someone has spent years thinking their way through life rather than feeling their way through it.

And slowly, we can begin to separate:

✨ Who I really am
from
✨ Who I learned I needed to be.

We can explore the shame of “not being good enough”.

The frustration of constantly feeling behind.

The fear of disappointing people.

The exhaustion of pretending everything is fine.

The inner voice saying “Why can't you just be normal?”

The behaviours we use to escape overwhelm, procrastination, avoidance, emotional eating, scrolling, impulsivity, withdrawing or sabotaging things we actually care about.

Not with judgement.

But with curiosity and compassion.

Because self-sabotage often isn't about not caring.

Sometimes it's a coping strategy that made sense at some point.

And when we start understanding what sits underneath the behaviour, we have something we can actually work with.

🌱 EFT isn't about changing who you are.

It's about creating space to listen.

To notice.

To feel.

To understand.

And perhaps, little by little, to reconnect with the person underneath all that masking.

The person who was there all along. 💛

EFT is not a treatment or cure for ADHD, but it can be used as a complementary wellbeing tool to explore emotions, stress, self-beliefs and patterns of behaviour.

If this resonates with you, you're not alone.
You don't have to spend your whole life trying to become easier for everyone else to understand.

Maybe it's time to start understanding you. 🌿

We talk about cortisol like it’s just the “stress hormone.” But cortisol does a LOT more than make you feel stressed.

Research has found that higher cortisol levels are associated with a 60% higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Chronic cortisol dysregulation has also been linked with changes in blood pressure, blood sugar, metabolism, and brain health.

In a randomized controlled trial led by researcher Dr. Peta Stapleton, participants who completed a 60-minute EFT Tapping session experienced a 43.24% reduction in salivary cortisol.

That doesn't mean tapping prevents heart disease or that lowering cortisol automatically lowers your risk by a specific percentage. More research is needed to understand the long-term health effects.

But it does give us something fascinating to think about: stress isn't just something you feel. It's something your body responds to.

And learning to regulate that stress response may have effects that reach far beyond simply feeling calmer.

"Small daily acts that bring you pleasure are more important than you realize. They change your physiology and print your body to release good hormones and chemicals that contribute to pain relief. It's a powerful place of healing and wellness that can do wonders for you and your body".

When choosing EFT as your tool for emotional regulation, it's so important to learn from an accredited practitioner.

I'm saying this because I've recently seen a video of someone local advertising the fact they use EFT as a tool. However, their video of them doing EFT is completely wrong.

What worries me is the general public wouldn't know. How many people choose to work in wellbeing who dont actually hold qualifications in the modalities they offer?

Don't be afraid to ask for proof of qualifications! It's your right! No qualifications aren't everything but they prove the practitioner has invested time, effort and money in to something and learnt how to use it properly.

When using EFT you cannot cut corners by tapping on two seperate points at the same time. Each point represents a different acupressure point and relates to a different part of the body, through the meridian system. Each point deserves it's own tapping time and each seperate point can bring up new emotions.

There are also certain tapping points for a reason, if you detour and just tap anywhere that is not EFT.

You cand find a list of accredited EFT practitioners on the EFT & Mindfulness website.

So when you choose a wellbeing practitioner be sure your getting what your paying for and don't be afraid to ask questions or for qualifications. Just because wellbeing isn't a regulated sector doesn't mean good practice and standards should go out of the window.
