It is a real privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate deep-rooted habits around food. For many people, the constant mental noise of sugar cravings and habit-loop eating can feel exhausting.

What we are often working on behind the scenes in these sessions is biology, not just willpower. While pharmaceutical weight loss jabs are a highly valid medical intervention - and something I fully support when necessary - it is also incredibly empowering to look at how our own bodies operate. We naturally produce GLP-1, the exact hormone responsible for signaling satisfaction and fullness to the brain, right in our gut.

When we use hypnotherapy effectively, we are actively calming the nervous system and reframing habit loops, helping the brain regain sensitivity to those natural ‘full’ cues so you can feel back in the driver’s seat.

If you are currently trying to overcome your own health concerns, please know that change is entirely possible, and it can happen gently.

Modern self-improvement culture loves to tell us that if we aren’t grinding, forcing, or fixing ourselves, we are falling behind. But trying to shame yourself out of your comfort zone is an exhausting way to live.

In my latest blog post, I look at why your brain actually resists this pressure - and how genuine self-kindness creates the safety net you need to take real-world risks without the burnout.

If you equate going easy on yourself with a lack of productiveness, you aren't alone. It is a common fear that easing up on harsh self-pushing means we will lose our way forward.

However, psychological research suggests the exact opposite.

In my new blog post, I share how to trade the whip of hustle culture for the steady support of self-compassion, and how solution-focused hypnotherapy can help program our subconscious mind to move forward in positivity.

Discover why harsh self-criticism paralyses growth, and how to use self-compassion and solution-focused hypnotherapy to safely take real-world risks.

Which one will you try today?

Research shows that people who regularly do things they love are more resilient to stress. And Dr Elissa Epel's Big Joy Project, a study of around 20,000 people, found that small, simple acts of kindness and connection can shift our emotions within a week and make us more altruistic and prosocial.

We can increase positive emotion within minutes, just as quickly as we can reduce stress. And the ripple effect of that extends far beyond ourselves.

In this week's NEW episode of my 'Feel Better, Live More' podcast, Dr Elissa Epel shares the science of stress, ageing and why joy may be one of the most powerful tools we have. Tune in to episode 668 to hear more 🎧

We all know that nagging inner voice. It is the one that tells you that you have ruined your diet, or that you just lack the willpower to change.

But if harsh criticism actually worked, wouldn't we all be thriving by now? The truth is, trying to criticise yourself into good health is like driving a car with the handbrake fully engaged. When we launch a harsh verbal assault on ourselves for a slip-up, our brain registers it as a literal threat - causing both psychological sabotage and a metabolic shutdown.

Real, sustainable transformation doesn't come from self-punishment; it begins with self-compassion.

I've put together a brand new blog post exploring the science of self-blame (featuring insights from nutritionist Sarah Ann Macklin) and how to move forward with kindness. Read the full article below.

Change doesn’t have to feel like a stressful, uphill battle. Let's start the conversation.

Learn how self-criticism sabotages your metabolic and psychological health, and how solution-focused hypnotherapy rewires the brain for sustainable lifestyle changes.

June energy always tells us we should be doing more. More socialising, more rosé in the sun, more optimising of every single daylight hour. It’s exhausting.

So here is your gentle permission slip to do less.

As a hypnotherapist, I spend a lot of time helping people realise that the “rules” dictating their lives are often old, unconscious habits they picked up along the way. Your subconscious loves the familiar, even when the familiar is boring or restrictive.

This month, we are giving the subconscious a polite shake-up. We are breaking tiny, invisible rules just to prove we can. We are aggressively opting out of summer FOMO because burnout doesn’t taste good, even in the sunshine. And we are nudging the boundaries of what’s possible - one millimetre at a time.

Which one of these are you taking into June with you? Let me know in the comments.
