This , Abbie wanted to say: “I would like to thank Amy Leigh. I came into Pinderfields Birth Centre on 11 January, having contractions very close together.
“When I arrived, they said they may have to close the Birth Centre as no one else was in it, but they would see how dilated I was before making the decision. I was examined and they decided to keep it open as I was 7cm.

“I was taken to the birth room with the pool, and they started to fill it up for me. Before the pool was ready, I was already ready to push and gave birth to my daughter. It was all very fast and overwhelming, but Amy was there supporting me through it all. We were in hospital for less than an hour when she was born.

“I then had to go to theatre, which was a scary experience as I’d never been before. Amy was very supportive in the room and afterwards too. Everyone in theatre was so relaxed and friendly, which really helped put my mind at ease.”

This , Emma wanted to say:

“I would just like to thank Amelia South, our incredibly beautiful, inside‑and‑out midwife, who helped us deliver our baby boy safely on 23 March 2026.

“From the moment Amelia walked into our room on Labour Ward, she instantly made me and my partner feel at complete ease. Her kindness, patience, personality and general aura were second to none.

“Being a midwife is 100% the right role for Amelia - she was born to deliver babies into this world! Her support, encouragement and presence allowed me to have the best possible experience delivering our baby. Nothing was too much trouble; she was extremely informative, and every step of the way I felt nothing but her genuine care, love and support.

“There are no words to express how grateful I will always be to Amelia for allowing me to have such a positive experience during and after labour. We will be forever grateful, and she will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for everything - you really are one in a million!”

📣 Coming soon: New Maternity Enquiry Line – launching 29 June

❗Please note: This line is not for urgent concerns – anyone experiencing urgent symptoms should call Triage on 01924 543006 or 543002.

As BaBi Wakefield turns 4 so does our very first cohort of BaBi babies, who are now getting ready to start school!

BaBi Wakefield is a long-term research study following local families through pregnancy and early childhood. By taking part, families are helping us better understand how to give every child the best possible start in life - shaping future services and support for children and families across our community. The study also helps us explore how we can create a healthier environment for families across the Wakefield district.

📊 Take a look at our infographic to see a snapshot of BaBi Wakefield data and impact since the study began.

You can sign up during pregnancy or before discharge from maternity services. Midwives will usually ask if you’d like to be part of this important research study, but if you haven’t been offered it yet, just ask.

We know that quitting smoking isn’t easy 💛

This , Alice wanted to say: "I had my baby girl at Pinderfields in January and every midwife who supported me throughout pregnancy, labour and post-natally was amazing.

"I also want to provide some feedback and my thanks to Amy and Leila who ran the antenatal class in December. My husband and I attended and found it really useful. I felt more confident to make quick informed decisions throughout my labour and less daunted by it thanks to the class. Amy and Leila were great at covering complex topics in an engaging and honest way, answering any questions people had along the way. The class flew by, and I would definitely recommend it to others. Please pass on our thanks to Amy and Leila!"
