This is exactly why personalised nutrition isn't about giving everyone another restrictive diet.
A client recently came to me struggling with frequent digestive symptoms, fatigue and brain fog. She was confused about what she should and shouldn't be eating and had become reliant on energy drinks to help her through the day.
Rather than immediately removing more foods, we focused on some simple foundations: eating regularly, building balanced meals, increasing tolerated whole foods, reducing reliance on stimulants and adding gentle movement after meals where possible.
Within the first week, she reported significantly fewer digestive upsets, slightly less brain fog, was eating more regularly and had gone 8 days without an energy drink.
What I particularly love about this case is that these improvements didn't come from eating less or following an increasingly restrictive diet. In fact, she was eating more regularly and enjoying a wider variety of foods.
We're still very early in the process and there's more work to do to understand what may be contributing to her digestive symptoms. One week of improvement doesn't mean the underlying issues have been resolved.
But it's a wonderful reminder that sometimes we need to stop asking “What else should I cut out?” and start asking: “What does my body need more of?”
If you're struggling with digestive symptoms, fatigue or simply don't know what you should be eating anymore, this is exactly the kind of puzzle I love helping clients unravel.
