Yesterday we had the privilege of visiting the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt at the WX Wakefield. Seeing the quilt in person was a powerful and moving experience, providing an important opportunity to remember those lost to HIV/AIDS, honour their lives, and reflect on the impact the epidemic has had on individuals, families, and communities.
The UK AIDS Memorial Quilt is on display at the Wakefield Exchange from 4th–7th June, giving people across the district the chance to experience this significant and thought-provoking exhibition.
We are incredibly proud that Turning Point has been able to play a small role in supporting this important event. Through Turning Point Inspiring Recovery, providing drug and alcohol support across the district, while Turning Point Talking Therapies offers support for people experiencing common mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, stress, low mood and low self-esteem.
The quilt serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, understanding, inclusion, and reducing stigma—values that continue to underpin the work we do every day.
It was inspiring to see so many people engaging with this important piece of history, and we are proud to stand alongside partners and communities helping to keep these stories alive and ensure they are never forgotten.
If you have the opportunity, we encourage you to visit the exhibition between 4th and 7th June and learn more about the stories and lives represented within the quilt.
