We're particularly lucky in my village to be commemorating the 200 year anniversary of Charles Waterton who started the world's first nature reserve. There are loads of events taking place, including wanderings in the parklands and birdwatching trips run by the RSPCA. A great way to mark World Mental Health Awareness week by getting closer to nature.

Walton is home to the world’s first nature reserve, situated on the grounds around Walton Hall now Waterton Park Hotel. Charles Waterton built a three mile long wall around it and in 2026 it celebrates its 200th birthday. A celebration of Charles Waterton and his Wall.
