Richard is a dancer & registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist (RDMP). Richard currently runs a DMP service on an NHS Older People's ward in a Halifax. Richard is passionate about improving the quality of life for people with dementia by focussing on body action and rhythm.

If you’re back from your summer travels with any leftover foreign currency - notes or coins, big or small - please consider donating it to us.

We can exchange it and use it to help fund our work.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you for your support!

Feel free to drop it off at our centre on a Wednesday or Friday or we can try and arrange collection if you get in touch.

Come and join us for our Ceilidh on Friday 6th November at 6:30 pm at Normanton Golf Club! ☘️ 💃 🕺

Almost all our tickets have sold, but we still have a few left!

Tickets are £15 per person and include a pie and pea supper.

All proceeds will help us provide support to people living with dementia and their carers.

Our Deepest Sympathies to Darren Byford

It is with great sadness that we extend our heartfelt condolences to Darren Byford on the passing of his beloved husband, Peter.

During Darren’s term as Mayor of Wakefield, he very kindly chose Memory Action Group as his charity of choice. Through his dedication, generosity and enthusiasm, Darren raised a significant sum of money for our charity and organised numerous events, which he and Peter attended together.

Both Darren and Peter showed wonderful support for our work and a genuine passion for making a difference to the lives of others. Their kindness, commitment and generosity will always be remembered and deeply appreciated by everyone at Memory Action Group.

Peter’s final act of kindness, benefitting others through organ donation as he departed this life is an extraordinary and selfless legacy, bringing hope, healing and the gift of life to others even in his passing.

At this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Darren, his family and all those who loved Peter. We hope Darren can take some comfort in knowing how much Peter meant to so many people and how his final gift has made such a profound difference to the lives of others.

Today, we want to highlight and thank one of our most loyal supporters, Councillor Darren Byford (former Mayor of Wakefield).

During his tenure from 2024 to 2025, Darren and his husband Peter chose MAG as their official charity.

After experiencing the pure joy and power of music at our 'Big Sing' event, Darren knew he wanted to support our mission. "I’ve gone from ignorance and fear to understanding," Darren shared, reflecting on how his time with MAG shifted his perspective on dementia. "I’ve learned to let people live in the moment they understand."

We are incredibly grateful for Darren’s continued dedication, the awareness he brings to MAG, and every penny raised to support people living with dementia in the Wakefield district.

Thank you Darren and Peter, for being such an important part of our journey! ✨
