As this week draws to a close, we’re delighted to say our founder Jan will feature on BBC Breakfast News tomorrow morning.

In 2019, Jan decided to help form a peer support group named ‘Memory Action Group’. Along with other carers, she aimed to create positivity in a space where there was so much negativity.

To everyone at MAG, she remains the driving force and heartbeat of everything we do and we can’t wait to see her celebrated. ❤️👏

To highlight National Volunteers Week, we also want to thank our Trustees.

Our Trustees volunteer their time to support the management, administration and strategy of MAG.

They ensure we create, develop, and deliver our objectives. Our board brings a wide range of skills, knowledge and most importantly their lived experience of dementia.

Laura has been a Trustee of MAG for over three years. She had no connection to dementia until ten years ago, when a person close to her began living with it.

Her many areas of expertise, particularly within the health sector, have helped to shape MAG into what it is today.

"One pearl of wisdom I heard at MAG was around communication: checking whether the person has got their glasses on, their teeth and hearing aids in. It was a real light bulb moment.”

The best part of her role is, she says, helping people. “Helping one person has a ripple effect".

Thanks to Laura and all our other amazing Trustees.

To highlight National Volunteers Week, we wanted to let a couple of our MAG volunteers share some of their own words.

Maggie specialises in crafts and often works in the quiet room in our centre. “You can take time out. There are books, chairs and a warm atmosphere.” “We’ll make you welcome. We’ll get you a coffee and a cake.”

Janet and Lynne are friends who run our stall on Ossett Indoor Market every Friday to raise money for MAG. Lynne says “If I didn’t have the stall, I’d really miss it.” Janet says “When I’d given up work and Mum was at home, the stall was my salvation. These days, I really look forward to it.” “One of the best bits is talking to people.

There are many more volunteers who help MAG and we appreciate each and every one of them. Thank you!

It’s Volunteers Week and we’d like to take a moment to thank all of our amazing volunteers.

Our charity is run by volunteers and relies entirely on donations. Our volunteers are the backbone of our organisation and give their time freely for the benefit of people living with dementia and their carers.

Our Trustees volunteer to support the management and administration of the Charity. They also ensure our Charity progresses to create, develop, and deliver our objectives and strategy

A few of our volunteers are pictured here but there’s many more working hard to help MAG every week.

A huge thank you to all of you. ❤️

What an incredible afternoon we had at The Big Sing! It was truly amazing to see the Wakefield community come together for an afternoon filled with singing, dancing, laughter, and great fun.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success — especially Anthony for hosting the sing so brilliantly, and to everyone who came along and joined in.

The atmosphere was absolutely overwhelming in the best possible way, and it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves and supporting one another.

We hope you enjoyed it just as much as we did!

Out ‘Big Sing’ is tomorrow! 👏🎵🎶

Antony will be facilitating our event and hosts our monthly 'Singing for Fun' sessions every month at MAG.

"The years drop off people, faces light up and people leave feeling a lot better than when they arrived."

Come along to QEGs between 2pm - 4pm (doors open 1:30pm). The event is free but donations are welcome to help support our work in the area.
