πŸ’Š With the bank holiday fast approaching, we would like to remind our patients to order and collect repeat prescriptions in plenty of time.

βœ… Do also check in with vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbours that they have all the medication they need.

πŸ—“οΈ Please see details of which pharmacies are open over the Bank holiday weekend – many will be closed. It would be wise to check that the pharmacy is open before travelling to one if you need to use one over the long weekend.

πŸ’» You can easily order repeat prescriptions using the NHS App or come to the practice in person to order your repeat prescription.

☎️ If you do run out of medication, NHS 111 online or by telephoning can offer advice on how to get an emergency supply to see you through until Mill Stream Surgery open again on Tuesday 26th May.

A BIG THANK YOU TO NURSES EVERYWHERE πŸ‘πŸ»

Today – Tuesday 12th May – is International Nurses Day

We are sure you would all like to join us in saying a huge thank you to our nursing team at Mill Stream Surgery, and the wider community nursing team supporting our patients across Oxfordshire for everything they do every single day.

At Mill Stream Surgery we are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated, skilled team, and we are proud to support their development and progression within the practice.

Our wider nursing team includes nurses, health care assistants, phlebotomists, and clinical GP assistants, all who play an essential role in caring for patients.

We are grateful too for our community nursing colleagues – District nurses and Health visitors at Oxfordshire Health, Sue Ryder and Sobell House Nurses who work closely alongside us, bring their expertise to support patients at home and in the community.

Thank you. πŸ’™

20 Years of NHS Bowel Cancer Screening –

ℹ️ What You Need to Know

April 2026 marks a significant milestone - 20 years of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, a service that has helped save thousands of lives through earlier detection and timely treatment.

Bowel cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the UK, but screening continues to be one of our most effective tools. The at-home FIT kit is quick, simple, and free and it enables us to identify potential issues at the earliest possible stage, when treatment has the greatest impact.

πŸ™‹πŸ½ Who is invited?

Anyone aged 50 to 74 and registered with a GP is invited to take part in the bowel cancer screening programme. Your FIT kit is sent directly to your home address and includes everything you need, with full instructions. You will receive a kit every two years.

If you were born after 1 June 1974, you should receive your first test kit when you turn 50. If you were born before 1 June 1974, you will receive your first kit when you turn 52.

βœ… Keep your GP details up to date

To make sure your test kit reaches you, it’s important that your GP has your correct:

β€’ Name
β€’ Date of birth
β€’ Address
β€’ Phone number
β€’ Email address

Please contact your GP practice if any of your details have changed.

πŸ§“πŸ» Aged 75 or over?

If you’re 75 or older, you won’t receive automatic invitations, but you can still take part in bowel cancer screening every two years by requesting a FIT kit.

☎️ Need help or more information?

If you have questions about bowel cancer screening or think you should have received a kit, contact the free helpline: 0800 707 60 60.

This helpline can be used to request a new test kit, ask questions about the process, or update personal details.

Taking part in bowel cancer screening could save your life, please don’t ignore your invitation. πŸ™
