Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK.

Bowel cancer screening uses a test called a faecal immunochemical test (FIT) to look for blood in a sample of your poo. This could be a sign of bowel cancer.

You collect the sample at home and send it by post to be tested.

It can help find cancer early, and before you have any symptoms, which may mean it's easier to treat.

If you're aged 50 to 74 and registered with a GP, you'll automatically get a bowel cancer screening home test kit (FIT kit) through the post every 2 years.

If you think you're eligible for bowel cancer screening but you've not been invited, or had your test kit, call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060.

Patients and staff in Wolverhampton and Walsall will benefit from the rollout of new digital Ambient Voice Technology (AVT), which helps clinicians better focus on their consultations.

The technology listens securely to patient consultations and automatically generates structured clinical notes, which are reviewed, edited where necessary and approved before being added to the patient’s record.

Be part of our AGM

People are invited to Walsall Healthcare’s Annual General meeting (AGM) being held on Wednesday 23 September at 1.15pm in the Sister Dora Lecture Theatre, MLCC, at the Manor Hospital.

Guests are encouraged to come and find out more about the Trust’s achievements and challenges over the past 12 months, hear from our community and look ahead to what the next year holds.

They can also visit the marketplace of stands that we create in the main atrium of the hospital. Teams from our hospital and community services will be showcasing the innovation and improvement that is making a difference to our patients as well as within our workplace.

Our Chief Executive, Joe Chadwick-Bell, will look back over the last 12 months and the Trust’s Annual Report and Accounts will be presented. A question and answer session will also be offered.

Thanks to all those who attended the recent World Breastfeeding Week event at the North Family Hub in Blakenall.

Hosted as part of World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August), families were able to share their experiences with others while also enjoying a slice of cake.

There was also time to get creative, as all those who dropped by got the chance to embellish a cup with a handprint of their baby.

Kelly Rutter, Infant Feeding Practitioner, explained: “It’s occasions like this that remind us why peer support groups are so brilliant in helping mothers through breastfeeding.

“On behalf of the Infant Feeding Service, I’d like to extend a massive thank you to every single member of this amazing community. Your energy, stories, and shared moments make the group here in Walsall so special.

“Let’s keep this wonderful momentum going and continue to support one another every day – the connections and conversations don’t stop here.”

One family said: "The support from the team has been wonderful. Just hearing that you are doing well can be the most helpful thing. We are loving every moment of our breastfeeding journey."

Details for breastfeeding support, and other resources, are available online at: http://www.walsallhealthcare.nhs.uk/.../infant-feeding/

Those families wanting to share their breastfeeding experiences can do so at the local Peer Support Group. Find out more at https://bit.ly/WalsallBreastfeedingPeerSupportGroup
