Online Integrative Therapist in the UK
I work with identity e.g. I'm an ENM & LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist.

sexuality, gender, neurodivergence, chronic illness, and mental health, the relationship with "self", and how you then relate to the outside world and the people around you. I work in an integrative approach meaning I adapt my way of working to your preferences, where possible, in a collaborative way. We will talk about what it is you would like to get out of counselling and look at ways we can do

this. My core way of working is offering a safe and non-judgemental space through person centred counselling and it's core conditions, which are to hold you with unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence. From here I layer on tools and techniques from other approaches such as gestalt ways of working (metaphors, 'here & now' work, somatic exploration), ways of working from MBCT/SFT/CBT (using mindfulness techniques to explore our ways of thinking, looking at how this can be different, and how this can then impact our behaviour/emotions), and CFT/ACT (looking at our internal narrative, how we can be more compassionate and accepting to ourselves). Depending on what it is you're wanting to explore, how long we work together, and your preferences, will depend on the techniques used in our sessions. If you are considering short term work with myself then we will look at the most pressing issue you would like to focus on, whereas longer term work will allow more breadth of work.

Be gentle with yourselves πŸ’š

I have a lot going on in the background at the moment. So, I'm going to be taking a step back from posting for a couple of weeks and will update when the time is right.

I'll still be engaging with other posts/comments but need to take a break from thinking of what to post for my own sake!

Give yourself permission to take things slow 🐌

This little snail reminded me of "following the yellow brick road" or in its case the yellow lined hose πŸ˜…

That life (and sometimes therapy) can be so unknown and overwhelming. It's okay to slow down and focus on the next step ahead of you rather than always looking at the big picture and end goal.

There's not always a "fix" for things and sometimes it is just about the process.

How will you give yourself grace and slow down today? πŸ’š

The course has been through peer review with all edits made and I've had some amazing feedback from it.

"This is a fantastic resource for anyone working with chronic illness. It's really comprehensive and covers areas you may not have ever considered. There are plenty of links to explore further and really insightful reflection questions. It's also great if you're a chronically ill therapist as it encourages you to explore how this work impacts you."

"Emily covers a huge berthed of information in a detailed and sensitive manner. I came into the course with a solid foundation of knowledge due to having several chronic illness. However, I'm coming away with plenty of new knowledge to incorporate into my private practice, as well as into my own life."

"I feel supported and encouraged in working with people living with chronic illnesses having done this course. Emily writes engagingly and knowledgeably. Thank you!"

"As a counsellor living with chronic illnesses and working with clients who have/family with a chronic illness, this course has been invaluable for my practice. It has added to the skills needed in my toolbox to work with clients who experience the world with chronic illness. Informative, well researched and reflective, this course has enhanced my practice and throughout, prompted self-reflection. I would definitely recommend this course to those interested working with chronically ill folx."

"Whatever your starting position, be it a chronically ill therapist, an able-bodied therapist, or any mental health practitioner working with chronically ill folx, this course will change your practice for the better. For me, I loved the balance of research and self-reflection woven throughout the course. Having finished it, if someone was to ask me 'what do I need to know about working with chronically ill folx?', I would point them here."

You already exist and you matter πŸ’š

"If I wait for someone else to validate my existence, it will mean that I’m shortchanging myself.” – Zanele Muholi

Yes, it can be comforting and reassuring to jave validation from external sources. You don't need to stop accepting or that in.

But you are valid regardless of that! You don't need that external validation in order for it to be valid.

If you find that you're constantly needing that external validation, therapy might be helpful.

How do you move through the world? πŸ’š

Felt that this should be reposted for pride month.

**This doesn't mean you have to tolerate hate or abuse. Of course, still keep yourselves safe.**

Hatred, bigotry, and stigma all tend to stem from a feeling of the unknown, what we don't understand, and a feeling of uncomfortableness.

It feels like our world is turning backwards in many areas right now, and whilst it is much more nuanced and complex than this, an element of it can be from having an idea or sense of what that was like and there being a comfort in it, rather than trying to push forward into an unknown with things to try and understand it all too.

Compassion and curiosity allow us to try to understand the experience of others, and this also goes for understanding ourselves, too!

Now, I am not saying you have to do this at all. I am furious about all that's going on and has gone on; I could quite easily spread hate if I wanted to, but that's just not how I move in the world, and that is my own choice. I also choose not to interract or waste my energy on people who don't want to try and understand or listen to other perspectives as it get neither of us anywhere and I end up more frustrated than when I began πŸ˜… so I choose compassion where I can and as much as I can because spreading compassion feels so much more fulfilling for me πŸ’š

If you comment on my page with a view of trying to understand and be curious, amazing, but if you're here to attack and spread hate, I'm not going to stand for it ✨️

It's pride month you beautiful beings πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Thinking about pride is bringing up a lot for me this year. It's always been a bittersweet feeling but with all that's going on in our world it feels especially heavy.

There is still so much left to protest and fight for, whilst also celebrating how far we've come.

You don't need to have yourself figured out, you don't need to "be out", you don't nees to outwardly celebrate pride either for it to be valid for you. Pride is for all of us wherever we're at with our identity πŸ’š

Pride also doesn't have to be happy. It's a complex thing and cam actually be so draining for those who have been fighting for equal rights for years to see rights be taken back and know more is still needed to be done.

This is a time to stand together. Whether you celebrate, mourn, get angry, or reflct it is a month for you.

I am proud of being q***r. I am proud of being a demi-bisexual woman.

Sending love to you all this pride and always πŸ’š

I'm so chuffed πŸ₯°

My CPD for Working with Chronically Ill Clients is currently being reviewed and I have had my first testimonial:

This is such amazing feedback and it's made me even more excited to share it soon!!

If we ask for help, we NEED it! 😒

Someone with chronic pain is often in pain 24/7

If we verbalise our pain, it means PAAAIINNN

If we actively can't hide the pain anymore e.g. are doubled over that means PPAAAAAIIIIIIIINNNNNN!!

Our pain tolerance and rating system is different. Someone without pain can actually live with 0 pain. We might be living with 3+ pain on a daily basis.

I'm currently in a 7-8 pain day πŸ™ƒ but it's also a part of my normal and something I can "mostly" manage..... But other people might seek help by this point if they're not used to it.

The best tip I've learned for those of us with chronic pain is this pain new and unmanageable?

Like if this was a new pain I'd not experienced before I'd probably be seeking help!
