Children thrive when they feel trusted, listened to and involved in real-life activities. We see this every day in our work when children are given a genuine voice and the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways, their confidence, independence and sense of belonging grow.

Today, we involved children in the conservation work of our woodland, as well as creating a sensory path. It has been fascinating to watch them take part, share their ideas and show such commitment and care in creating something they can feel proud of.

☀️ Day 1 at Unplugged Kids Club was a fantastic start to our summer holiday club. The energy was high and every child left tired out and happy.
We packed a lot into our first day. The kids tie-dyed their t-shirts, build their own fidget toys, and it was brilliant to see so many first-timers having a go at climbing our beloved Oak tree. Between all the crafting, upcycling, and outdoor play, it was just a brilliant day of screen-free fun.
We can not wait for the rest of the week!

In just a couple of days, we are opening the gates to our enchanted Tree Canopy woods for unplugged summer adventures. Here, imagination leads the way and child-led play is celebrated over a rigid timetable of activities. We will be discovering forgotten crafts, creating imaginative castles, building secret dens, gathering for group games and cooking together over an open fire.

If your child would like to make great summer memories and join us for real adventures, you can find out more via the link in our bio.
We look forward to seeing everyone next week 🫶🌳.

Now that the summer holidays are finally here, we wanted to take a moment to look back at the incredible memories we have made with your children over the past year during our Unplugged Kids Clubs.

Every year, our outdoor journey begins in early spring, just as the wettest and coldest days start to pass. Working with children outside across changing seasons brings unique opportunities for a deep connection with nature. Whether it is braving the cold, appreciating the warmth of a crackling fire, or finding refuge under the trees during a heatwave, these experiences give children a direct connection to the natural world.

Each time we gather in our little woodland garden, there is a chance for a child to discover something brand new about themselves, others and their surroundings. These are real, tangible experiences that time on a screen simplcan notot translate. They build a child's internal world from the ground up and we are incredibly humbled to facilitate this nurturing space for our local community.

Moments like getting lost in the pure flow of play, planting a tiny seed and watching it grow, or coming up with a big idea and sharing it with a group, these are the lessons that stay with children forever.

Thank you to every family and child who made this past year so special. We can not wait for more adventures ahead!

Did you know our ancestors wasted absolutely nothing? Long before modern supermarkets, we grew, sourced, and processed food ourselves. Every single part of a plant or an animal had a purpose and nothing went to waste.

Today, during the session, we put that ancient wisdom into practice with a Ribwort Plantain harvest. We saved the leaves to dry for tea and to use as a natural medicine for stings. Then, we extracted the seeds and husk to use for baking bread during our next session and saved the stems to make cord.

As we were processing the harvest, we had great conversations about honouring the earth, sustainability, and Neolithic living. All the activities were initiated by the boys. There was no need for handouts or worksheets, just pure child-led learning.

Why Children Thrive Outdoors 🌳
Have you ever noticed how a child’s energy shifts the moment they step outside? The restlessness and everyday frustrations melt away and suddenly, they find joy in playing. Stepping outdoors gives children a blank canvas for play. They become inventors, creators, artists, and builders because they are free from the rigid structures that shape their indoor days. In nature, there are no walls containing their natural energy. Instead, they can follow their curiosity and invent their own adventures.

Nowadays, children have fewer opportunities to make their own decisions, test their limits, and learn from mistakes. Yet, this unstructured, child-led play is exactly how they build self-esteem, deep confidence, and strong social skills as they learn to cooperate within a group. We see it at all of our clubs.

Children thrive when they are given the freedom to explore, take healthy risks, and challenge themselves without fear of getting things wrong or being told off. Sometimes, children don't need more rules or activities. All they need is the freedom to play, the space to explore, and the permission to simply be children. 💚👉

Dreams don’t usually arrive fully formed they start as a quiet feeling that there’s something more meant for you.

Just over 5 years ago, I listened to that feeling and took a leap of faith. I left my secure job at the NHS with no real plan… only a deep desire to live differently. I wanted to spend more time outside, closer to nature and free from the four walls that no longer felt right.

It wasn’t easy. People questioned my decision and at times, so did I. There were moments I wondered if I was being unrealistic. But I kept working hard and trusting that inner pull, even when I couldn’t yet see where it was leading.

Slowly, things began to shift.

Day by day, I was getting closer to doing a job that feels aligned with who I truly am and that makes a difference.

So if you’re holding onto a dream, unsure whether to take that first step… this is your reminder: You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to trust yourself enough to begin.

And if you needed a sign… this might be it ✨️
