When are you due?
A yoga student asked me this on Saturday, I smiled and said it’s menopause belly, and we bumped are beautiful menopause belly’s together celebrating this stage.
No baby is growing in there.
But something is.
Menopause has been teaching me that not all creation happens through the womb. Sometimes we stop birthing children… and begin birthing ourselves.
Ideas.
Boundaries.
Wisdom.
Freedom.
A deeper relationship with the Earth.
A quieter voice that somehow speaks much louder.
Our culture celebrates the youthful, flat stomach, but rarely celebrates the woman becoming the enchantress, the elder, the wise one. The woman whose body tells the story of a life lived.
This body has held grief.
Love.
Healing.
Thousands of hugs.
Thousands of Reiki treatments and yoga classes.
It has carried me through every version of myself.
So perhaps I am expecting…
A new chapter.
One with fewer apologies and more authenticity.
Here’s to letting go of the shame around changing bodies and honouring the extraordinary transformation that menopause can be.
Because we’re not disappearing.
We’re becoming.
