I’ve been thinking differently about the word ‘menopause’.
I recently read that menopause can be an emotive word.
And I get it.

For some women, it can bring feelings of loss, ageing, anxiety or simply, “What is happening to me?”
For others, it can be a time of freedom, growth and rediscovering who they are.

For me, it has been a bit of both.
And sometimes I get tearful thinking about it all 🥲

I have all the clinical knowledge. I’m a pharmacist. I’m a nutritional therapist. I understand hormones, medication, nutrition, stress, sleep and lifestyle.
But I’m also human.

And going through perimenopause myself, while building a business, has made me realise that knowing what to do and actually giving yourself permission to do it are two very different things.

There was a time when I had lost my joy in life. I felt flat. I needed more time out, but instead of listening to that, I often pushed on.

But I’m now learning to pause...

To recognise the impact that stress has had on my body.
To prioritise sleep.
To rest and nourish myself.
To let go of the things that drain me.
To journal.
To have more fun! 🤩

I'm even dusting off my old adult colouring book and it has become a surprisingly simple way to be creative, switch off my brain and just be. 🎨

And perhaps most importantly, I’m learning self-compassion.
Because I’m still figuring this out too.

I'm also finding this experience is changing the way I work with women going through the same season of life.

Whether you’re on HRT or not, navigating menopause and perimenopause can be challenging, but it can also be incredibly liberating.

Menopause isn’t just about something ending, it can also be an invitation to pause, listen to yourself and rediscover the things that make your heart sing. ❤️ 🎶

What has menopause or perimenopause made you pause and rethink in your own life? 🤔

Have you ever noticed how young plants are often protected when they're first planted? 🌱

Walking past a local farm recently, I spotted these tiny plants, each surrounded by protective tubes. A few weeks later, I couldn't believe the difference. They'd grown taller, stronger and were thriving. 🌿

It got me thinking...

When we decide to make changes to our health, we often expect ourselves to just "get on with it". But new habits are a bit like those young plants. They need nurturing, support and a little protection while they take root.

And that's especially true at this time of year. Summer often brings holidays, BBQs, family days out and a break from our usual routines. It's easy for healthy habits to get pushed aside, even when our intentions are good. ☀️

That's one of the reasons I include regular check-ins with my clients. They're not about perfection or keeping people "on track". They're about helping you overcome obstacles, work through challenges, adapt when life happens, celebrate the wins and keep moving forwards.

Because lasting change doesn't just happen. Like those young plants, it grows when it's nurtured, protected and given the right conditions to flourish. 💚

What's one healthy habit you're trying to hold onto this summer?

I’m still getting at least 7 different coloured fruit and veg each day - which is much easier when having more salads, including more herbs and and enjoying an abundance of seasonal food 🍓 🍍

Jonny can eat on the fly. We shouldn’t. 😥 🦅

I recently visited a birds of prey display and watched this beautiful hawk being rewarded with small pieces of meat as it flew (…but actually ran most of the time instead! 😂)... Jonny did a great job of keeping us entertained, the little cutie! 🥰

But it got me thinking...

So many of us eat in exactly the same way. On the move, at our desks, in the car or while ticking off the next thing on our to do list.

We tell ourselves we’re too busy to stop. That eating is simply about filling ourselves, rather than truly fuelling ourselves.

The problem is, our digestive system works best when we’re relaxed.

When we slow down and give ourselves time to eat, our body switches into “rest and digest” mode. That’s when we’re better able to break down food, absorb the nutrients we need and recognise when we’re comfortably full.

Mindful eating isn’t just about slowing down.

It can also help reduce bloating, cramping, indigestion, wind and changes in bowel habits. Sometimes one of the simplest ways to support your gut is to give it the time and attention it deserves. 💚

This week, why not choose just one meal each day to eat without distractions? Sit at the table, chew your food well and allow yourself a few moments to simply enjoy it. Your gut will thank you. 😊

Do you usually sit down to eat, or are you guilty of eating on the go?

Have you ever been told, "You're too young for perimenopause"?

I certainly thought I was.

Looking back now, I can see the signs were already starting in my mid 30s. And no one was really talking about it then.

My monthly cycles became shorter.

I felt more anxious than I ever had before.

My energy wasn't the same.
I wasn't quite feeling like myself, but I couldn't put my finger on why.

Nobody told me that anxiety could be linked to changing hormones.

At the time, I never connected the dots.

Many women think perimenopause only starts in their mid to late 40s, but for some of us, the hormonal changes begin much earlier. The symptoms can be subtle at first, and it's easy to dismiss them as stress, being busy, or simply getting older.

The good news is that you don't have to just put up with it.

The right nutrition and lifestyle changes can make a huge difference to your hormones, gut health, energy and resilience. Sometimes it's about making small changes that have a big impact over time.

This is exactly why I'm so passionate about supporting women aged 35+. I've been there myself, and I know how confusing it can feel when your body starts changing without any obvious explanation.

If you're wondering whether your symptoms could be linked to perimenopause, I'd love to help you understand what's going on and explore the next steps. 💚

You're eating well. You're taking your supplements. You're doing everything "right"... so why do you still feel exhausted?

If you're a woman over 35 struggling with fatigue, bloating, brain fog, hormone imbalances or feeling constantly stressed, there may be a piece of the puzzle that hasn't been explored.

💊Your medication could be affecting your nutritional status

Many medications are essential for our health, but some can also influence nutrient levels or interact with supplements and herbs. It's not something that happens to everyone, but it's something that's often overlooked.

For example:
• Omeprazole and other PPIs may contribute to low magnesium.
• The contraceptive pill may affect folate and other B vitamin levels.
• Metformin (commonly prescribed for diabetes and PCOS) can contribute to low vitamin B12.

This is why my approach is different.

As both a Pharmacist and Nutritional Therapist, I help women connect the dots between medication, nutrition and their symptoms.

Because you shouldn't have to choose between conventional medicine and nutrition - they can work well together.

My goal is to help you feel confident, safe and supported while improving your gut health, balancing your hormones and building resilience to stress.

💚 If you've been wondering why you still don't feel like yourself, I'd love to help you explore what's really going on.

Imagine planning your day around where the nearest toilet is... 🚻 🚽
Sadly, for millions of people in the UK, that's the reality.

With recent reports highlighting the decline in public toilets across the UK, it's becoming even harder for those living with IBS, bladder and bowel conditions, prostate issues, and other digestive concerns to get out and enjoy life.

Summer should be about making memories, meeting friends, exploring new places, being outdoors and enjoying the sunshine. ☀️ Not worrying about where the next toilet is.🙈

The good news is that while we can't control the number of public toilets, we can work on improving what's driving the symptoms.

For many people with IBS, digestive issues, or bowel and bladder concerns, that could mean:
✅ Calming an overactive nervous system
✅ Supporting the gut microbiome
✅ Identifying gut imbalances
✅ Exploring possible food intolerances
✅ Reducing constipation, urgency or loose stools
✅ Taking a more holistic approach by supporting the whole body - gut, immune, hormone, nervous and genitourinary systems

You don't have to feel restricted to staying at home or only going places where you know every toilet stop.

If you're ready to explore what's really going on, I'd love to help.

One of the joys of summer has to be picking fresh tomatoes straight from the garden. It’s been a fantastic season for them and you really don’t need a lot of space to grow your own.

A sunny spot and a grow bag can produce an amazing crop.

Tomatoes are incredibly versatile. Roast them with garlic and herbs, stir them through pasta, add them to salads, blend them into soups or simply enjoy them sliced with a little olive oil and black pepper.

They’re also packed with goodness. Tomatoes are a great source of vitamin C, provide potassium and are rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that’s linked to heart health. Interestingly, cooking tomatoes can make lycopene even easier for our bodies to absorb, especially when they’re eaten with a little healthy fat such as olive oil.

What’s your favourite way to enjoy fresh tomatoes?

Hydration doesn't have to be boring. 💧🍋

One of my favourite things is using a glass water dispenser and filling it with fresh fruit and herbs. Lemon and mint, cucumber and lime, strawberries and basil. It looks great, tastes amazing and makes reaching for water so much easier.

With this heatwave, staying hydrated is more important than ever. But here are a few things people don't often talk about:

☀️ Don't wait until you're thirsty. Thirst is a sign your body is already catching up, so sipping little and often works much better.

🥗 Hydration comes from food too. Watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes, strawberries and leafy salads all contribute to your fluid intake.

🧠 Even mild dehydration can affect your concentration, mood and energy levels long before you feel seriously dehydrated.

Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.

What's your favourite fruit and herb combination for infused water? 💧 🍎 🪴

I didn't realise my heritage was shaping my career long before I chose it....🪴🌿

As it's South Asian Heritage Month, I've been reflecting on just how much growing up in a Punjabi family has influenced the work I do today.

Some of my earliest memories are of my mum reaching for food and herbs before anything else. Fresh mint tea for nausea. Fennel seeds for an upset stomach. honey and lemon for a sore throat. And of course, spices and herbs that didn't just make our food taste incredible, but nourished us too. ❤️

Looking back, this was my first introduction to the idea that food can support our health. It sparked a curiosity about how our bodies work and how food, herbs and medicines all function and interact. That curiosity first led me to become a pharmacist. 💊

Years later, after experiencing my own health challenges following a bereavement, I found myself returning to those roots. I discovered the power of nutrition, lifestyle and a more holistic approach to health. It completely changed the direction of my career and ultimately led me to become a Nutritional Therapist. 🥗

More recently, I've also discovered that several of my ancestors had a real heart for healing. Learning that has felt incredibly special because I've always felt that same calling. To help people feel well, get to the root of what's going on, and support them in living healthier, happier lives. 💚

Sometimes the seeds of our purpose are planted long before we even realise it. 🌱

I'd love to know, what's one tradition, value or lesson from your family or culture that has shaped who you are today? 🤔
