It’s OK If You’re Struggling With the News

With everything going on in the world, it’s normal to feel unsettled, distracted, or emotionally tired.
Your nervous system reacts to uncertainty
it’s not a sign of weakness.

Try this simple reset:

• Sit with both feet on the floor
• Breathe in for 4, out for 6
• Notice one thing you can see, one thing you can hear, one thing you can feel

Small grounding moments help your body feel safe again.

If you or your teen are finding the world a bit much right now, support is available.

Menopause Anxiety and the Body South Warrington Counselling

Menopause can make anxiety feel physical.
A tight chest, an unsettled stomach, shaky hands, sudden rushes of adrenaline these sensations are common, and they’re your body signalling overwhelm rather than failure.

Techniques that help soothe the body:

• Box breathing — a steady rhythm that supports nervous system regulation.
• Temperature change — cool water on the wrists or face can reduce adrenaline quickly.
• Progressive muscle release — tension softens when each muscle group is intentionally released.
• Grounded self‑talk — gentle reassurance instead of self‑criticism helps the body settle.

Your body is navigating significant hormonal change.
Support is available when menopause feels overwhelming.
South Warrington Counselling a calm, confidential space to steady your mind and body.

Climate change and your mental wellbeing

Many people are finding that recent heatwaves, wildfires and extreme weather bring up difficult emotions. If you’ve noticed anxiety, fear, sadness or a sense of helplessness, you’re not alone.
Changes in our environment can affect how safe we feel, how hopeful we feel about the future, and how connected we feel to the world around us.

For some, these feelings sit quietly in the background. For others, they can intensify existing mental health difficulties or feel overwhelming especially when events like fires or floods happen close to home or appear constantly in the news.

Some people use the term climate anxiety to describe this mix of worry, grief and uncertainty. Whatever words you use, your feelings are valid.

It’s completely understandable to struggle with this. And while individual coping strategies can help, real change also depends on wider action from governments, communities and businesses.

Finding ways to look after yourself doesn’t mean ignoring what’s happening, it simply means supporting your wellbeing while staying engaged in a way that feels manageable.

It may help to:

• Limit how much climate news you consume staying informed is important, but constant exposure can heighten distress.
• Take small, meaningful actions contributing to positive change can reduce feelings of powerlessness.
• Connect with people who share your concerns community reduces isolation.
• Acknowledge your emotions noticing your feelings rather than pushing them away can be grounding.

If you’re finding these feelings hard to manage, speaking with your GP or reaching out for professional support can make a real difference.
South Warrington Counselling offers a calm, compassionate space to explore these emotions and find steadier ground.

When Couples Stop Talking About the Hard Things.

Many couples don’t fall apart because of one big event they drift because the small, unspoken things build up over time.
relationship guidance highlights a simple truth:
It’s not conflict that damages a relationship it’s silence.

Couples counselling offers a safe, structured space to talk about the things that feel too heavy, too repetitive or too painful to manage alone.

In sessions, we will work on:

• Rebuilding emotional safety
• Understanding each other’s triggers
• Communicating without shutting down or escalating
• Repairing trust after long-term strain or betrayal
• Learning how to reconnect instead of retreat

You don’t need to wait until things feel “bad enough”.
Support can begin at the first sign of distance.

The Sunday Night Dread

There’s a particular heaviness that arrives on a Sunday evening.
Not loud. Not dramatic.
Just that quiet sinking feeling as the weekend closes and the week edges closer.

For many people, this isn’t really about Monday at all.
It’s about everything your body remembers from last week the pace, the pressure, the emotional load you carried without stopping long enough to notice.

Sunday night is often the first moment you slow down…
and when you slow down, the feelings you’ve been holding at arm’s length finally catch up.

You might feel:

• A knot in your stomach
• A dip in mood
• Restlessness
• A sense of dread you can’t explain

This isn’t weakness.
It isn’t overthinking.
It’s your nervous system saying,
“I’m overwhelmed, and I need gentleness.”

If Sunday nights have started to feel heavier than they used to, it might be a sign you need space to breathe, reset, and feel supported again.

More People Are Turning to Therapy and It’s Changing Lives.

Across the UK, therapy use is rising and not just during crisis moments.
The latest BACP Public Perceptions Survey shows that more people than ever are choosing counselling, with 72% saying therapy was helpful and 76% recommending it to others.

This shift is happening because people are realising something important:
You don’t need to wait until things fall apart to ask for support.
Therapy is becoming part of everyday wellbeing a space to understand yourself, manage stress, and feel more grounded.

At the same time, BACP reports that young people are increasingly turning to AI instead of real human connection, as loneliness continues to impact mental health.
It’s a reminder that human support still matters being heard, understood, and met with compassion.

And with the Government currently consulting on a new 10‑year mental health strategy, BACP is calling for earlier intervention and better access to therapy, highlighting how counsellors are an underused workforce who could support communities more effectively.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply ready to understand yourself more deeply therapy can help.

☀️ Summer Body Image Anxiety

Summer can bring sunshine, holidays and lighter days but it can also quietly amplify worries about how we look.

If you’ve noticed:

• feeling more self‑conscious
• comparing yourself to others
• avoiding certain clothes
• anxiety around photos or social plans
• pressure to “look summer‑ready”

…you’re not alone.
Body‑image anxiety often increases when the weather changes, routines shift, and there’s more skin on show.

Your worth is not seasonal.
Your value doesn’t rise or fall with the temperature.
And you don’t need to change your body to enjoy your life.

If this time of year feels uncomfortable, gentle support can help you reconnect with confidence, compassion and ease.
