For years, some neurodivergent adults assume that everyone is putting in the same amount of effort they are.

The effort to concentrate.
The effort to socialise.
The effort to stay organised.
The effort to cope with noise, expectations and everyday life.

Then one day they discover that what they've been experiencing isn't necessarily everyone else's normal.

Sometimes it's a sign that you've been working incredibly hard just to get through the day.

Understanding your neurodivergence can bring compassion to experiences you've spent years criticising yourself for.

Therapy can be a space to explore that understanding and build a life that works with your needs, rather than against them.

Many people grow up being told they're too sensitive, too intense, too reactive, or that they need to toughen up.

Over time, they learn to question their feelings rather than understand them.

But what if your emotions aren't the problem?

What if they're trying to tell you something important?

Therapy can be a space to explore your emotions with curiosity rather than judgement, and to understand yourself more compassionately.

I'm really enjoying reading this man's work. He has a lot of valuable insight and is definitely worth a look at.

Are you starting to notice neurodivergent traits in yourself? Confused about how that relates to the way you have always understood yourself?

Over the next few posts, I'm going to share some of the thoughts I've heard from clients and neurodivergent adults:

"I thought I was too emotional."
"I thought everyone felt this exhausted."
"I thought something was wrong with me."
"I finally started making sense to myself."

Many people spend years blaming themselves for struggles that were never about laziness, weakness or failure.

Sometimes understanding your neurodivergence can help you see yourself with more compassion, make sense of your experiences, and build a life that works with your brain rather than against it.

If you've ever felt different, overwhelmed, exhausted by trying to fit in, or like you're constantly working harder than everyone else, these posts are for you.

Understanding yourself can be the beginning of a very different relationship with yourself.

Stealing a few moments to read this book that arrived today. Think its going to be a good one. I'll let you know if its one I'd recommend soon.

(Not gonna lie though, might end up having a "nanna nap" too)
