I’ve just handed in my notice at the leisure centre.

And honestly?
It feels terrifying and brilliant in equal measure 😬

That job has been my safety net for a long time.
The steady income, the routine, the familiar faces every morning.
There’s a comfort in that, and I won’t pretend leaving it was an easy decision!

But Flexion has been growing.
Quietly, consistently, in the way that starts to make you think….what if I actually backed myself here?

So I did 🥹

I’m still doing everything I love.
Match days at Sunderland, working at Maiden Castle, the shiatsu training in Sheffield every month.
None of that changes.

What changes is that for the first time, my business isn’t something I’m building around everything else.

It’s the thing everything else is built around🫶🏼

I’ve wanted this for a long time.
To do this properly.
To show up fully for my clients without one eye on the clock because I’ve got somewhere else to be.

It’s a leap. A proper one.

But I made a vow a long time ago to do things from passion, not pressure.

This is me doing exactly that!

“I can’t really justify spending money on myself right now.”

I hear this one 😩
And I want to say something about it, not to dismiss it, because money is real and budgets are real

But I want to reframe what you’re actually spending it on.

This isn’t a treat.
It’s not a luxury in the way a spa day is a luxury.

When you invest in sorting out an injury or managing your body properly, you’re protecting everything that depends on it👇🏼

Your training.
Your performance.
Your ability to do the job you love.
Your mental health on the weeks where movement is the only thing keeping you level.

And here’s the practical side of it:

The longer something goes untreated, the more it costs.
In time, in sessions, in the impact on everything else around it.
A handful of appointments early on is almost always less than months of management further down the line.

I’m also not here to sell you sessions you don’t need.
If I can sort something in two appointments, I’ll tell you that.
If I think you need referring elsewhere, I’ll tell you that too.
You won’t leave with a treatment plan designed to keep you coming back unnecessarily.

Looking after your body isn’t selfish. It isn’t indulgent.

It’s just sensible!

📲Message me “INFO” and let’s talk about what you actually need. No pressure, no obligation.

If you’ve ever struggled with slow recovery between training sessions this will help 🙌🏻

Because constantly feeling beaten up isn’t just uncomfortable.
It’s a sign something in your recovery isn’t working.

Here’s what actually makes a difference👇🏼

Sleep 😴
Non-negotiable!
This is when your body does the majority of its repair work.
If you’re training hard and sleeping badly, you’re fighting yourself.
No supplement, no treatment, no ice bath replaces it.

Progressive load management📈
More isn’t always better.
Your tissue adapts to stress, but it needs time to do it. Spiking your training volume without building gradually is one of the fastest ways to break down.

Nutrition around training 🍽️
You can’t out-recover a fuel deficit.
Protein for tissue repair, carbohydrates to replenish energy stores.
Timing matters too.
What you eat around sessions affects how quickly you bounce back.

Active recovery 🏊🏼‍♀️
Complete rest has its place.
But low intensity movement like walking, swimming, and light mobility work, keeps blood flowing to fatigued tissue and speeds up the process more than doing nothing does.

Hands-on treatment💆🏼‍♀️
Soft tissue work, used at the right time and the right frequency, helps manage the physical load your training is putting through your body.
Not instead of the above….Alongside it!

Recovery isn’t passive.
It’s part of the training.

Which of these are you actually doing consistently?
Be honest and drop it in the comments.

You’ve accepted that this is just how your body is now.

And that breaks my heart a little bit💔

So you adapted.
Stopped doing the things that aggravated it.
Modified your training.
And told yourself it wasn’t that bad really.

And maybe it isn’t that bad. But it’s still there, isn’t it?
But it doesn’t always have to be this way.

That’s worth knowing 🤔

5️⃣reasons your injury keeps coming back in the same spot👇🏼

Because it’s not bad luck.
There’s always a reason.

1️⃣The root cause was never found
The pain settled so you stopped looking.
But whatever created the problem in the first place - a movement fault, a weakness, a training load issue - is still there.
Waiting 👀

2️⃣You didn’t complete the rehab
Felt better, got back to it, skipped the last phase😫
That final stage of progressive loading is exactly what builds the tissue back to full strength.
Without it, you’re returning on a structure that isn’t ready.

3️⃣Your body is still compensating
When something hurts, the body finds a workaround. Those compensation patterns stick around long after the pain goes.
And they create new problems, often in a completely different area.

4️⃣Your training load spiked too fast📈
Too much, too soon, after time off
Tissue adapts slowly.
Fitness comes back faster than structural capacity does.
That gap is where injuries happen.

5️⃣Nothing around it got stronger
The injury site healed but the supporting structures, the muscles, the stability, and the movement control around it were never addressed.
So every time you load it, the same weakness is still there 🫠

Recurring injuries aren’t just unlucky.
They’re a sign something was missed.

Which of these sounds most familiar? Drop it in the comments below

“I haven’t got time to commit to appointments right now”😫

I hear this a lot! And life is busy I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

Most people come in wishing they’d been in for an appointment sooner.
Because they realised the cost of waiting was higher than the cost of an hour out of their week.

Looking after your body isn’t luxury you fit in when things calm down.

Don’t do this if you want to avoid a hamstring injury 💪🏽

Stop skipping your warm up because you’re short on time!

I know how it goes.
You’re rushing to training, you’re already late, five minutes of dynamic work feels like five minutes you don’t have.

So you crack straight on.
And it’s fine.
Until it isn’t🥲

The hamstring is one of the most commonly injured muscle groups in sport and one of the most commonly reinjured.
Because people rush back, skip the prep work, and wonder why it keeps happening🫣

Here’s what your hamstring actually needs before you load it👇🏼

🌡️Gradually increase the temperature.
Cold tissue is less pliable and less forgiving under load. A proper warm up isn’t just psychological it physically changes how the muscle responds.

🤸🏻‍♀️Take it through its full range.
The hamstring works hardest at end range - sprinting, kicking, change of direction.
If you never warm it up through that range, you’re loading it cold at the most vulnerable point.

🚫Don’t static stretch before activity.
Holding a stretch for 30 seconds before training reduces the muscle’s ability to produce force.
Save the long holds for afterwards.
Dynamic movement before. Static after.

📈Progressive loading matters.
Don’t go from zero to sprinting.
Build the intensity.
Give the tissue time to wake up and respond.

The warm up isn’t the boring bit before training.
It’s part of training.

Save this and share it with someone who always skips the warm up 👀

If you’ve ever struggled to know whether you need a sports massage or a full assessment, this will help!

Because they’re not the same thing.
And booking the wrong one can mean you end up back at square one!

Here’s a rough guide:

You probably need a sports massage if…
💪🏽You’re training hard and your muscles are fatigued and tight.
🏋🏻‍♀️You’re preparing for or recovering from an event.
😫Everything feels heavy and you just need to reset. 😬Nothing is acutely wrong, you’re just running hot.

You probably need an assessment if…
🤕Something specific hurts and you don’t know why. 💥The pain keeps coming back in the same spot.
💊It’s affecting how you move or train.
🚫You’ve had massage and it helps temporarily but never fully fixes it.
📉You’ve been injured and you don’t have a clear plan.

You might need both if…
‼️You’ve got an ongoing issue that needs treating but your body also needs hands-on work to manage the training load around it.

That’s actually really common, and it’s exactly what rehab sessions are built for.

The honest truth?
If you’re not sure, start with an assessment.
Understanding what’s going on is always the right first step.
Massage without assessment is symptom management. Assessment first means you’re actually treating something.
