Today is International Dog Day, a day whereby we as a society can celebrate dogs of all breeds and backgrounds, raise awareness about dog welfare and promote the adoption of dogs.

It is also an opportunity for us to recognise those working dogs who perform invaluable roles including guide dogs, rescue dogs, police dogs and those serving in the armed forces.

Scott our Funeral Director grew up with Tara, a German Shepherd and then, following her Sheba who was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross. Sadly neither Tara or Sheba are still with us but, like any other family member they are remembered fondly.

Do you have or have you previously had a dog, if so please feel free to share a photo and tell us about them....

This morning our Funeral Director Scott was joined at Nene Valley Crematorium by Alan, Craig, Destiny and Ken as they helped a family say goodbye to a clearly very funny, much loved and deeply respected man.

Kate Reneerkens was our celebrant and she today donned the motorcycle leathers and acted as an outrider for this particular gentleman's final journey..

A Northampton Town Football Club fan for many years we heard the words to 'The Fields Are Green' ring out as the service drew to a close.

🗣 "The field are Green, the skies are blue, the River Nene goes winding through, the market square is cobbled stone, it shakes the old dears to the bones. No finer town you'll ever see, no finer town they'll ever see, big city lights don't bother me, Northampton Town I'm proud to be" 🗣

Sam was our Funeral Service Specialist who worked alongside the family and what a wonderful job she did to ensure everything was just right.

❓️ Did you know that here at John Drage Funeral Directors we have our very own chapel? ❓️

It's called The Croyland Chapel and was officially opened by Kate Reneerkens, a good friend and a much loved, trusted and highly regarded local celebrant in July 2025.

Our chapel offers families the chance to say goodbye on their own terms without the time pressures families sometimes experience with traditional service venues and in a relaxed and peaceful setting.

If you would like to know more about The Croyland Chapel then please do not hesitate to give Sam or Carol a call on 01933 222492. Alternatively, if you are walking by and would like a look around then why not pop your head in and, if convenient to do so we can show you around.

Earlier this afternoon our Funeral Director Scott journeyed out to the nearby village of Raunds, home to the world's shortest pelican crossing and also home to Raunds Cemetery..

Whilst in Raunds Scott met with the lovely Louise at Raunds Town Council before heading over to Raunds Cemetery to conduct a recce ahead of a funeral service he will be conducting their later this week.

Today we helped another of our wonderful local families as they said goodbye to a much loved lady.

Our Funeral Director Scott was joined by Alan, Connor, Craig and Nate at Doddington Road Cemetery here in Wellingborough.

Kate Reneerkens was awaiting our arrival outside the wonderfully intimate chapel and then delivered a beautiful service full of warm words and touching tributes.

Petal Cascade Florist provided a stunning white and red crucifix to adorn the coffin.

Another wonderful arrangement completed by our Funeral Service Specialist Sam, well done Sam, we and the families we serve are lucky to have you.

Yesterday our Funeral Director Scott was joined by Alan, Connor, Craig, Ken, Mark and Nate as they helped a family say goodbye to a lifelong Trekkie.

Curtis loved Star Trek, spent years working the buses and clearly had a great sense of humour, something that shone through in the songs that were chosen to remember him.

* Music on Entry: Star Trekkin - The Firm

* Music for a period of Reflecrion: The Muppets Theme Tune

* Music on Exit: Another One Bites The Dust - Queen.

Nene Valley Crematorium was the setting, not quite the Starship Enterprise but a wonderful setting all the same and it was Kate Reneerkens who once again lead us in the celebration of a life well lived.

"He's not really dead. As long as we remember him." - words spoken at Dr Spocks burial in Star Trek II

Yesterday afternoon our Funeral Director Scott was once again at Nene Valley Crematorium where he was joined by Alan, Craig, Destiny and Ken. The team were on hand to assist a family as they said goodbye to a much loved and deeply treasured man.

Alison Healy was our celebrant, she has recently qualified and this was ours and Scotts first time working together, she delivered a beautiful service.

Petal Cascade Florist provided our floral tribute and Sam was our Funeral Service Specialist who looked after the family. Sam is vastly experienced and the family stressed how her advice, guidance and support had made making the arrangements much simpler and easier than they had anticipated.

One year ago today our good friend Kate Reneerkens opened The Croyland Chapel for us, a space for families to gather and remember their loved ones and a place that the very community we serve can use too.
