Cataracts typically develop slowly and cause painless, progressive vision loss that can eventually, interfere with daily activities.
In the early stages, you might notice slightly blurred or misty vision, similar to looking through a dirty window. As the lens continues to cloud, colours may appear faded or yellowed, and you may experience significant glare, halos around lights, or poor night vision, making driving difficult. Frequent changes to your glasses prescription can also be an early sign that a cataract is forming.
FACTORS;
UV Exposure: Unprotected exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet (UV) radiation damages lens proteins over time.
Smoking: To***co use increases oxidative stress in the eye, doubling the risk of developing cataracts.
Alcohol Consumption: High and regular intake of alcohol is strongly linked to earlier cataract formation.
Medical Conditions and Treatments Diabetes: High blood sugar levels alter the structure of the lens, causing cataracts to develop much faster.
Corticosteroids: Long-term use of steroid medications, such as eye drops or tablets, significantly elevates risk
Eye Injuries: Past eye trauma, severe inflammation, or previous eye surgeries can trigger secondary cataracts.
