Good Afternoon people who follow/use/enjoy Studio Eight.

I’m after a favour.

Towards the end of this year I’d like to not be using social media.
I’m repeatedly told it’s impossible to run a business without it- but this will not deter me from trying!

We will be continuing (unless something drastic changes) to grow our community past our 3rd birthday and this is where I need your help.

There will be a presence on our website- this will be where all studio information will be, along with some free taster classes & meditations eventually. We will be out with leaflets and maybe even on the market. There will also be more on YouTube but platforms like this (and the other) increasingly don’t feel like a place I personally want to be. Or to consume.

So please if you are keen to help us last another 3 years - go onto the website and sign up for our news letter which will be coming out soon.
AND spread the word by reviews and recommendation. Old Skool baby.

I think the Western yoga world has gone a little mad.

Maybe it's just my algorithm, but all I seem to see are extreme backbends, handstands, arm balances, and increasingly impressive feats of flexibility. And honestly, it makes me a bit sad.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with exploring what the body can do. If you love balancing, inversions, or pushing physical boundaries, that's wonderful- I enjoy it too!
But somewhere along the way, it feels as though we've started to mistake the most visible parts of the practice for the most important ones.

Yoga was never meant to be a performance.

One of the concepts that keeps me returning to practice is tapas — a Sanskrit word that translates as discipline, dedication, or the inner fire that sustains consistent effort. I need discipline in my life because I have a tendency to spiral pretty quickly without it.
And it’s not the discipline of forcing or of achieving, but the discipline of returning.
Returning to the same mat, same breath the same somewhat simple movements,�the same wandering mind and inner loops.

A calming 6 week guided meditation workshop designed to help clear your mind, create space, and reconnect with yourself.

Every Wednesday from 3rd June to 15th July
🕙 10am to 10:45am

Whether you’re completely new to meditation or already have experience, this workshop is open to all levels. Each week we’ll explore a different theme to help you feel more grounded, centred and able to simply be yourself, giving you a peaceful pause in your week.

Over the 6 weeks, you’ll learn simple techniques to help you feel more confident creating your own meditation practice at home.

I don’t ’just’ teach yoga! I also give a pretty good massage- apparently 😁
I’ve been working in the back ground sorting boring admin which is actually enough for me to want to just not do this anymore 🤣 (I’m serious)
And I have not even had a chance to promote myself in any of this.
So here I am- want a massage?

I seem to have found my speciality and it’s by no coincidence- living with chronic illness (autoimmune illness) means I have an extra layer of understanding as to what it’s going on for those of you who are also navigating similar experiences.
Added to that I’ve also been partial to the odd mental and emotional challenges- mainly caused my years of people pleasing, anxiety, mass overwhelm and probs a missed diagnosis or 2, but we roll.

So what I’m saying in a clumsy way is- I probably get you if any of that resonated. If your shoulders are up by your ears, your jaw is clamped tight, you feel like your walking through treacle and 3pm is always nap time, I see you. If you wake up and wonder what on earth you’re going to have to deal with next- I also see you.

Every massage is different. I will work with you and your needs on the day.

Now the craziness and awesomeness of the festival and all the planning has passed, my health and sanity has returned to a decent base level- full attention is now on the fine tuning of our lovely spaces. Brick by brick we build. I’ve had some feedback that people don’t know where we are and that’s fair. We are a hidden gem tucked away down a courtyard. Once you know you know 🤩 but also perhaps I’ll give you a helping hand. You will be able to see our sign on the gate of heritage courtyard and soon to be sign hanging outside. The absolute truth is when it was just me- I loved being invisible- my people found me and I was in no great rush to be over booked or stretched- that’s the introvert in me but, as the space has grown and developed and I share with some really incredible practitioners it’s only fair you know about them too and what they do. So here’s the start - you will find our weekly timetable on the landing. This is the first step. Soon you will see all the faces of the magic behind the doors. The team has expanded beyond myself and I’m just catching up with that and the fact that I now have help 🙏 so, thank you for your patience while we grow and navigate this seemingly rapid expansion. I am now we. And many hands can make s**t happen ✨🧙✨

From time to time I’ll do a post like this- and it’s that time of year when classes can be hit and miss with holidays, and the sunny evenings- So if you’re thinking about trying or returning to yoga - maybe this can save you some time with the faff of finding out if I’m the right teacher for you (and there are so many lovely wonderful and maybe more sensible traditional teachers around please don’t give up looking)
But if this sounds like the sort of space you’re looking for then definitely come and join in. You can find my classes on a Monday evening and a Friday morning and every other weds morning.
I also hold a monthly sound bath, rest practice and a new addition is the ‘sacred rage room’ which is definitely the era of my life just now- and I cannot wait to get involved in that one next week 😎 think yoga meets metal 🤘 (and no, this is not traditional yoga, but it is movement and breath and connection and honouring all of the emotions- and, there may be more than the odd f bomb in that one! 😳and if you’re 40++ you know what I’m talking about!)
