What actually happens when you come in for an eye examination? 👓

Our clinical director, Rebecca Donnelly, is being featured on Radio 5 Live Drive to remind everyone of the importance of protecting your eyes for today’s eclipse.

Please do not look directly at the sun! Even during an eclipse the sun can cause permanent damage to the retina and loss of vision. This is like a burn but it does not hurt while it is happening so you wouldn’t realise straight away.

Normal sunglasses aren’t enough either no matter how dark they are. You need proper eclipse glasses that meet the recognised 1SO 12312-2 safety standard. Make sure they are not damaged or scratched before using them.

Do not look at the sun through binoculars, a telescope or a camera as these can concentrate the sunlight and make the damage worse.

So enjoy this pretty amazing event but protect your eyes while doing it!

Everyone came away with a greater understanding of dry eye disease, more confidence in tailoring recommendations to each individual patient, and a real appreciation of the role that supplements can play in managing the condition.
