Welshpool Medical Practice is working in collaboration with Powys Teaching Health Board providing a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) service.

A First Contact Practitioner is a highly skilled healthcare professional, usually a physiotherapist, who specialises in assessing, diagnosing, and managing musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. This includes problems affecting muscles, joints, bones, tendons, and ligaments.

The FCP service can help with conditions such as:
▪️Back pain
▪️Neck pain
▪️Joint pain and stiffness
▪️Muscle injuries
▪️Sports injuries
▪️Arthritis-related problems
▪️Tendon and ligament conditions

Our Practitioner can assess your condition, provide advice and treatment options, recommend exercises, arrange further investigations if appropriate, and refer you to other services when needed. This service allows patients with musculoskeletal concerns to access the most appropriate healthcare professional directly, without needing to see a GP first.

The First Contact Practitioner (FCP) service is designed to assess NEW muscle, joint, and bone problems. If your condition has already been assessed and is ongoing, the FCP may not be the most appropriate service.

How to book:
Patients can book an appointment with the First Contact Practitioner by:
▪️Using the NHS App to self-book an available appointment.
▪️Contacting the practice reception team by telephone or email, who will be happy to arrange an appointment at the next available opportunity

Dear Patients,

Our April data, is lending itself to 5158 clinical patient contacts attended, however 108 clinical 15-minute appointments were wasted due to patients not attending without prior cancellation.

𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦
Missed appointments result in:
• ⏱️ Wasted clinical time (equivalent to 27 hours of care)
• 🚫 Reduced availability of appointments for other patients
• 📈 Increased waiting times across the practice for other patients

𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣 𝗨𝗦 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣 𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer it to another patient.
