A well-fitting saddle isn’t something that’s done once and forgotten. It’s an ongoing process.

As horses grow, strengthen, gain muscle, lose condition, or change through their workload, even the smallest alterations in their shape can affect how a saddle fits. What was the perfect fit three - six months ago may now be creating pressure, restricting movement, or causing discomfort.

That’s why saddle fitting is all about the fine tuning.

Sometimes it’s just a small flocking adjustment, a slight rebalance, or a minor tweak to accommodate the horse’s changing shape. These little changes may seem insignificant, but they can make a huge difference to a horse’s comfort, way of going, and overall performance.

The best results always come from working as a team. Saddle fitters, physiotherapists, vets, coaches, farriers and, most importantly, owners all play a vital role in keeping horses happy, comfortable and performing at their best.

No single professional has all the answers, but together we can build the bigger picture and make informed decisions that put the horse first.

Because sometimes it’s the smallest adjustments that make the biggest difference.

🐾 Cavaletti poles – one of my favourite rehabilitation tools! 🐾

They might look simple, but cavaletti exercises can make a huge difference to your dog’s movement and strength when used correctly.

Benefits include:
🐶 Improving proprioception (your dog’s awareness of where their limbs are)
💪 Building core and hindlimb strength
⚖️ Improving balance and coordination
🦴 Increasing joint range of motion
🚶 Encouraging a more controlled, symmetrical gait
❤️ Boosting confidence in dogs recovering from injury or surgery

The key is that cavaletti exercises should always be tailored to the individual dog. Pole height, spacing, speed, number of repetitions, and the surface all influence which muscles are working and whether the exercise is appropriate.

Whether your dog is recovering from orthopaedic surgery, managing arthritis, returning to sport, or simply needing to improve their strength and stability, cavaletti work can be an invaluable part of a rehabilitation programme.

Remember: more isn’t always better! Quality of movement is far more important than speed or the number of poles completed.

📩 If you’d like to know whether cavaletti exercises could benefit your dog, get in touch to discuss a personalised rehabilitation plan.

Feeling very proud to see this handsome boy on the front cover of British Eventing magazine alongside Under 25 star Jess Rimmer! 🌟

I was lucky enough to treat him as a youngster and it’s always so rewarding to watch horses you’ve worked with go on to achieve great things. From those early days to now being on the cover of a national magazine, what an incredible journey.🐴✨
