The Toby Henderson Trust is offering a free ‘Introduction to Makaton’ Family Workshop on Tuesday October 6 from 10am to 12.30pm at the Autism Hub, delivered by Makaton Tutor Anna Melling from Talk to the Hand Makaton Training. To book a place, families will need to email [email protected] but places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Women in South Tyneside can now access a new Virtual Reality breast screening experience designed to promote early intervention screening.

The ground-breaking project by Gateshead NHS uses VR technology to allow women to experience a virtual walkthrough of a mammogram appointment in real time; allowing them to see the equipment, room and screening process and ask any questions before they arrive at an appointment.

Patients are set to benefit from improved hearing services following a major refurbishment of the audiology department at Palmer Community Hospital in Jarrow.

Cancer care in South Tyneside is rated amongst the best in the NHS according to patients and families who have used local services.

The National Patient Experience Survey for 2025 shows patients rate their overall care at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust as a strong nine out of ten.

This is above the national NHS average and in the top 35% of all trusts nationally.
