👋🏻 Hello! I'm Michelle.

🌿 I'm here to help you with your romantic relationships.

🌿 Whether you're single and don't see to be able to find the kind of long term relationship you want, or if you're in a couple and want to improve your connection...

❤️ ...I'm here for you.

🤔 We've become really great at diagnosing the problems in romantic relationships, but what do we do about it?

💡 The problem is, as humans we're destined to repeat the same patterns over and over unless we make a conscious effort to do things differently - and even then it's hard.

💡 Working with clients, and building on what I know of how change happens, I've developed a method that works, and I want to share it with you.

🙂 I'm in the middle of writing a book, and as I'm going along I'm creating content for you, based on what I'm writing about and sharing it.

😁 So you can be alongside me as I write!

🙏 Will you join me? ❤️

🌿 This week....

🌿 The final few days of summer.

🌿 A week focussed on clients.

🌧️.. And watching the rain.

📚 This month's book review!

📚 It's my second one so hopefully it's at least a little bit better...

📚 It was Dorothy Tennov that invented the word 'limerence' and it was in this book that she introduced it to the world.

💡 Limerence is that feeling when you first met someone - often described as being 'in love'. It's a normal, human feeling when you first meet someone, but can become problematic when it becomes inappropriate or obsessive.

💡 Dorothy wanted a different word to explain the feelings to separate it out from the word 'love' - which is a different thing.

📚 This book uses various case studies to explain the concept.

📚 I confess I didn't read all of it - but what I did read was insightful and helpful.

✨ Dolly Parton has always been my No1 if anyone asks me who I'd like to have dinner with.

✨ She was an amazing performer (I had the joy of seeing her in concert), and a superb business woman, yes, but I admired her most for this:

✨ She habited the world with grace - ALWAYS. That's a value I aspire to and miss all too often - sometimes spectaculary!

✨ She knew who she was, and had confidence in that - the joke was on those who couldn't see that.

✨ If we are able to know who we are, and have confidence in that, then although we are unlikely to achieve global fame, we can find a life that brings great satisfaction.

🌿 Feeling empty?

🌿 Chasing wants?

🌿 How to improve your self esteem?

💡 Know your values.

🌼 It can be easy to chase what you want in the moment, but that can leave you feeling empty.

💡 When you understand and live by your primary values, watch your self-worth soar.

✍️ This week's reflections: inconvenient data!

🌼 I carried out a survey on "what is love" (by the way I'll pop the link in my bio if you'd like to contribute!) for my chapter on the 5 myths.

😐 Unfortunately the data said the opposite of what I'd written about! It was a real pain at the time, but in the end it helped me to think a little deeper and the chapter is much richer for it.

💡 Data is important - back up assumptions!

🌿 Estrangement: is this you? There are 2 really hard tasks for you to avoid bitterness overtaking you.

🌿 No doubt you'll have seen the various reports of estranged members of famous families.

🙄 I can't comment on the Royals, Beckhams, or Peatys, but I can speak to you.

🌼 Often clients come to me in this situation.
🌼 Usually they hear "family's too important... Blood's thicker than water"

💡 But if you've been subjected to abuse, fundamentally different values, or mental health projected onto you, estrangement may be the only answer.

💡 The hard work for you is 1) forgiveness and 2) 'putting it to bed'

Neither are easy. Both are for *YOU* not them.

🌟 Working through the pain, and understanding they won't be changing, are the gifts you give to yourself.

🙏

🌿 This week in the life of a therapist...

🌿 Networking, writing, content creation, and a few coffees...!

🔥 Rapid fire no3

❔ What's the most common issue couples bring to therapy?

🌼 Usually they ask to learn communication skills

💡 What we actually work on the underlying causes if why it's so difficult.

Thanks - as always, I had no idea what the question would be and we did it in one take!

✍️ This week's reflections: the perils of re-reading what I've already submitted for the developmental edit.

🌿 A quite innocent read to see how the 1st three chapters flow and fit together led to the uncomfortable reality of spotting 2 grammar errors and 1 reference to a person I hadn't yet introduced 😨

🌿 I've been stressing about this one so suspect I secretly wanted to see if it was any good.... 🙄
