Good evening . In between doing Albion related stuff I will be covering england and the world cup .
So I thought i would write a piece on how I see england going into the world cup finals in the USA , Canada and Mexico.
Please forgive my grammar I have a learning difficulty so please forgive my spelling mistakes and puncuation etc 😂
The squad
Overall I think this a decent england squad . I don't think it's the best it could have potentially been . For example I would have had both palmer and foden in the squad over eze . I also maybe would have took welbeck as he has been absolutely phenomenal for brighton for many a year .
Speaking of Brighton and maybe this is a left field shout in terms of player mentioned . But instead of taking a cheerleader in Jordan Henderson . I would have taken Jack hinshelwood in his place who has been brilliant for the seagulls and vital to their first team midfield partnership .
I also think it was massive shock not taking Maguire . Despite how you may feel about him at club level ( like I do) harry Maguire has been a stalwart now for england since the 2018 world cup in Russia . Scoring crucial goals , marshalling opposition attackers and throwing his body on the line countless times . Playing with pride and passion .
But with that said I do refer to my earlier statement that this is still a decent england squad and despite having a difference of opinion when it comes to who should have been in i am fairly confident and this is the reason why .
THE MANAGER
Despite players missing that I would have personally chosen . I will humbly bow to the knowledge of a genuine world class manager in tommy tuchel .
Southgate for me didn't have the knowledge or tactical prowess to know what this england team actually needed on the pitch . ( Despite brining harmony to the squad and togetherness off the pitch )
Tommy tuchel is a world class manager. Managing some of the biggest clubs In Europe , Dortmund , Chelsea , bayern Munich and PSG.
Bundesliga winner with Munich , a first champions league final with PSG and winning a domestic quadruple and winning the champions league with the Chelsea ( the same year Albion smashed them by the way ;) )
I have real confidence that despite the squad appearing to lack some star players . I trust in his knowledge of the beautiful game to know what this england team needs to be genuine contenders to go all the way in North america
Where england will finish ?
Personally for me I think England reaching the semi final is minimum . Personally if we met France or Spain in the hypothetical semi final I do think we would fall to the sword .
BUT tuchel is a clever manager and if anyone can devise a plan and create a scenario where england can find and exploit any weaknesses and somehow edge a win against genuine world class opposition.
I havent been this excited for a manager since we got capello in ( I know isn't the most highly reguarded but his winning percentage is one of the highest of any England manager and our " better players " was aging. Capllos cv as a player and manager mesmerized me 😂)
We have world class players , we have a world class coach . Could this finally be englands year ? Could it finally be coming home
