Recent news from Hull has understandably caused concern and prompted many people to question the standards they should expect from a funeral director. Like so many others, we are deeply saddened by what those families have experienced.

At The Elms Funeral Directors, we are proud members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and adhere to the UK Funeral Director Code.

The Code sets clear standards covering every stage of funeral care, from the first contact with a family through to aftercare. It requires members to treat every deceased person with dignity and respect, maintain secure and purpose-built care facilities, keep comprehensive records, provide transparent information to families, and have a written complaints procedure in place.

NAFD member funeral homes are also subject to a robust inspection programme, including on-site inspections, evidence-based compliance checks and mystery shopping. Should concerns ever arise, families have access to NAFD Resolve, an independent dispute resolution service operated in partnership with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), providing an impartial route for complaints.

At The Elms, these aren’t just standards we comply with—they reflect the values we have always believed in. Every person entrusted to our care is treated with compassion, dignity and the utmost respect, and every family can be confident that their loved one is cared for to the highest professional standards.

We are proud to announce that The Elms Funeral Directors Ltd. has once again successfully passed our National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) inspection and renewed our membership for 2026/27.

This isn’t just another certificate on the wall – it’s an independent recognition of the standards we uphold every single day.

As members of the NAFD, we are committed to operating in accordance with the UK Funeral Director Code, ensuring that every family receives the highest standards of care, professionalism, transparency and compassion.

The Code commits us to:
• Treat every person in our care with dignity and respect.
• Always act in the best interests of the families we serve.
• Provide clear, honest and transparent information.
• Maintain the highest professional and ethical standards.
• Continually review and improve the service we provide.

Being independently inspected and meeting these rigorous standards gives families confidence that when they choose The Elms, they are placing their trust in a funeral director that has been assessed against nationally recognised best practice.

We would like to thank our dedicated team for their continued commitment to providing exceptional care, and to all the families who continue to place their trust in us.

We’re delighted to announce that our new commercial solar and battery storage system is now fully operational.

As part of our continued investment in The Elms, we’re now generating our own renewable electricity, helping to reduce our environmental impact while improving the resilience of our business.

Our new system includes:
☀️ 32 high-performance solar panels
🔋 24kWh Fox ESS battery storage
⚡ Emergency backup power, helping to ensure our essential services continue to operate even during a power outage

For us, this isn’t just about reducing energy costs—it’s about investing in the future of our business, the community we serve, and providing reassurance that we’re prepared to continue caring for families, whatever the circumstances.

A huge thank you to Zach, Ryan and the team at Southwest Solar & Renewables for their professionalism and excellent workmanship throughout the project.

Yesterday, our team travelled east to the beautiful City of London Crematorium to care for a family and their loved one.

With its stunning chapel and immaculately maintained grounds, it provided a peaceful and dignified setting for a final farewell.

At The Elms Funeral Directors, we are proud to support families wherever they need us. While we are based in Weston-super-Mare, we regularly arrange and conduct funerals throughout mainland UK and Ireland.
