What’s happening on the skin’s surface is often a reflection of what’s going on inside.

When the gut lining becomes compromised, unwanted particles such as toxins, bacteria and undigested food can enter the bloodstream, triggering immune responses, inflammation and skin flare-ups such as psoriasis.

If the liver is overwhelmed and under-supported, due to poor diet, alcohol, medication or environmental toxins, it can struggle to process inflammatory compounds.

When the liver is sluggish, the body may push ‘excess waste’ through the skin, which leads to breakouts, rashes and chronic skin conditions.

As part of your work with me, we can look at how we can support your body from the inside out. We can work to identify any triggers, such as gluten, dairy or stress, balance your blood sugar and hormones and work on reducing inflammation through your diet and lifestyle.

With it being Psoriasis Action Month, now is the perfect time to take charge. Book in a FREE consultation call via https://my.practicebetter.io/ #/5eca2d132a98230728965624/bookings?s=5edb6e682a982306fcaf352b or drop me a DM.

We have seen some seriously extreme weather in recent weeks. When temperatures rise, your body has to work twice as hard to keep you cool. This uses up extra energy, even if you’re sitting still.

It also affects your quality of sleep, so even if you’re in bed for eight hours, you might be waking without realising it due to the heat, leaving you feeling less than refreshed the next day.

On top of all of that, dehydration can creep up on you, leading to tiredness, headaches and reduced concentration.

A few simple ways to help support your energy levels include:

- Drink water regularly throughout the day, not just when you feel thirsty.

- Eat balanced meals that include protein, healthy fats and fibre to help maintain steady energy.

- Snack on water rich foods like watermelon, cucumber and strawberries.

- Be mindful of caffeine intake, as too much can contribute to dehydration for some people and may affect your sleep later in the day.

If you're constantly feeling fatigued, even after making healthy changes, it may be worth looking at your diet and lifestyle more closely. Sometimes your body is trying to tell you something.

Have you noticed you're more tired during hot weather?

A good balance between your mind and body doesn’t happen by accident, it happens through small choices and changes you make each day, such as how you nourish your body, manage stress and how you prioritise rest and recovery.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck in a cycle of putting everyone else first, my wellbeing packages are designed to help you create a healthier, more sustainable balance that works for your life. https://www.yumnutrition.org/consultations/wellbeing-coaching-packages/

One of the biggest fears people have when it’s suggested they should remove a certain food from their diet is, ‘but what will I eat?’

They often focus on what they’re losing, rather than what remains.

I recently recommended a client of mine go gluten free and instead of concentrating on the small number of foods she could no longer have, we reframed things to instead look at what she could have. It actually made what she couldn’t have look pretty minimal.

If you're worried that making changes to your diet means giving up everything you love, this testimonial is definitely worth a watch, and if you’d like advice or guidance on changing your diet, you know where I am. I can help you find a way of eating that works for your body, supports your health goals and still fits your lifestyle.

It’s quite the challenge to have a healthy mind and body - it can take a lot of work!

So, what is the process when you approach me for help on your journey? It is much more comprehensive than an appointment with your GP. It goes into more detail about aspects that you might not immediately recognise as relevant. It's a deep, honest and confidential conversation.

Before we meet I will ask you to complete a questionnaire and to keep a 3-day food diary. There is no judgment here and it supports me in devising a targeted, and importantly, realistic plan for you.

It's my intention to support you towards your best health. If you want to find out more about the consultation process, you can do so at https://www.yumnutrition.org/consultations/everything-you-need-to-know/ and go on to book a free, 30-minute phone call to discuss your needs.

While it might not always look like it’s summer when you look out of the window, I can reassure you that it is, and with that always comes lots of talk surrounding weight loss.

Lately we’ve seen an increase in the amount of people turning to weight loss jabs such as Ozempic and Mounjaro, and while lots of people have seen great results, they shouldn’t be used on their own.

The injections reduce appetite, but they don’t change habits, food choices or movement, which is why it’s so important to use them alongside working with a professional.

Without a solid plan in place, which is something a Nutritional Therapist (like me!) can provide, it’s easy to slip back into old habits and put all of the weight back on.

As a Nutritional Therapist, my role is to support you in making sustainable changes that will stick. That means nourishing your body with the right foods, building realistic habits and routines and moving in ways that support fat-burning and energy.

And another thing, please make sure your injections come from a verified and safe supplier.

If you’re thinking about starting a weight loss journey with the help of injections, or if you’re already on them and would like support on your journey, I’d love to help.

Let me reintroduce myself if you’re new here…

My journey to becoming a Nutritional Therapist/Clinical Nutritionist began back in 2004 when I was diagnosed with Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS).

Confused about what that meant for me and feeling powerless about the future of my health, I took matters into my own hands.

I started researching. I read everything I could about how I could reduce and manage my symptoms and quickly uncovered that nutrition and exercise held the key. Ever since then I have been obsessed with the power of food.

I retrained as a Clinical Nutritional Therapist in 2015 and graduated from the College of Naturopathic Medicine in August 2018.

Since then I have been running a successful clinic, now entirely online, supporting hundreds of clients to their better health.

Having worked on my own nutrition to support the management of my symptoms without medication, I became driven to share my knowledge with others. My passion is to help them find wellness too, with a focus on helping people to get back to feeling themselves. https://www.yumnutrition.org/about-me/

Your hormones are so much more than just your monthly cycle - they influence everything from your energy levels, mood and sleep to your appetite, metabolism and concentration levels. When they’re out of balance, it can show up in different ways, so you don’t always immediately connect symptoms to your hormones.

In case you missed it, I spoke with Jenny Adams on the Calm Your Nervous System podcast about female hormones and how they can link to chronic illness.

If you've ever felt like your body is sending you signals that something isn't quite right, this conversation is for you. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/understanding-female-hormones-and-the-link-to/id1754593126?i=1000685583462
