What a weekend!

Over the last two days, my 14-year-old son and I completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in 22 hours and 35 minutes.

I honestly couldn’t be prouder of him. He showed so much determination, resilience and positivity from start to finish, and he absolutely smashed it. It was such a special experience to share together and one we’ll both remember for a long time. (Thank you for being so patient with me on the mountains too!)

Needless to say, we’re both feeling it today, so we’ll definitely be booking ourselves in for some well-earned recovery treatment at Uphill Village Osteopaths this week.

Whether you’re taking on a charity challenge, training for a race, hiking, cycling, or simply trying something that’s pushing you out of your comfort zone, don’t forget to look after your body too. Preparing well and recovering properly can make all the difference.

Have you got an event or challenge coming up? We’d love to help you get your body ready beforehand and support your recovery afterwards. Just get in touch—we’re always happy to help.

And if you’ve completed something you’re really proud of recently, we’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Spent a joyous weekend in Anglesey with some of the girls I trained with 19 years ago, exchanging skills and knowledge. What did you get up to this weekend?

What a joy and a privilege to spend a weekend of connection, conversation and CPD with these amazing women and to welcome them to our beautiful Ynys Môn. We graduated from the College of Osteopaths together 19 years ago this summer! If you are lucky enough to live near one of these awesome osteopaths you are in some of the most thoughtful and compassionate hands in the country!

🌿 Tip of the Month: Support Your Vagus Nerve 🌿

You may have heard people talking about “resetting” or “stimulating” the vagus nerve—but what exactly is it?

The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body, connecting the brain to many of our major organs, including the heart, lungs, and digestive system. It plays a key role in the parasympathetic nervous system, often called our “rest, digest, and recover” system.

When the vagus nerve is functioning well, it helps to:
✨ Slow the heart rate
✨ Promote calm and relaxation
✨ Support healthy digestion
✨ Regulate inflammation
✨ Improve resilience to stress

In today’s fast-paced world, many people spend much of their time in a heightened “fight or flight” state. Simple practices that stimulate the vagus nerve can help encourage a shift back toward balance.

Some gentle ways to activate vagal pathways include:

💧 Cold exposure – A brief splash of cold water on the face can trigger a calming reflex through the nervous system.

🫁 Slow nasal breathing – Breathing through the nose at a slower rate, especially with a longer exhale than inhale, can help signal safety to the brain and body.

🎵 Vocalisation – Humming, singing, chanting, and gargling engage muscles in the throat that are connected to the vagus nerve.

While these techniques aren’t a cure-all, they can be valuable tools for supporting nervous system regulation and overall wellbeing.

As osteopaths, we appreciate the close relationship between the nervous system, physical health, and how we experience stress. Small daily habits can have a meaningful impact on how your body feels and functions.

Breathe. Relax. Reset. 🌱

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Paul Brabham and his team worked hard in the heat to transform our clinic flooring - and the results look fantastic.

The old flooring was completely removed, the surface carefully levelled, and a beautiful new herringbone floor installed throughout the clinic. We’re also very pleased to say goodbye to the hazard tape that had become a familiar sight!

Take a look at the progression photos to see the transformation from start to finish.

👣 Tip of the Month 👣

Did you know your foot health plays a bigger role in your overall wellbeing than you might think?

Your feet are your foundation—when they’re not functioning properly, it can contribute to discomfort elsewhere in the body, including:
➡️ Lower back pain
➡️ Hip pain
➡️ Knee pain

If you’ve been dealing with ongoing aches or pains, it might be time to look from the ground up. Osteopathic care takes a whole-body approach to help restore balance and improve how everything works together.

Curious about your foot health? Book a consultation and let’s get you moving comfortably again!

💡 Tip of the Month!

Did you know something as simple as where you keep your wallet—or how you sit—can impact your body?

Sitting on your wallet or crossing your legs for long periods can irritate your sciatic nerve, leading to discomfort, numbness, or even pain down your leg. 😖

Small habits = big difference:
✔️ Move your wallet to a front pocket or bag
✔️ Sit with both feet flat on the floor
✔️ Take breaks and stretch regularly

Your spine (and your future self) will thank you! 🙌

One of the most common questions we’re asked is: “How did I get injured?”

There are four main reasons injuries happen - and one of the biggest culprits is unaccustomed activity. This simply means asking your body to do something it’s not used to.

A classic example? Heading out into the garden after months away and tackling everything in one long, 5-hour session!

Now that the sun is out and the garden is calling, it’s the perfect time to get outside- but it’s important to think of gardening as exercise. You wouldn’t go to the gym for 5 hours straight without a break, and the same principle applies here.

✅ Pace yourself
✅ Take regular breaks
✅ Listen to your body
✅ Enjoy the sunshine

A little planning can go a long way in preventing aches and injuries- so you can keep doing what you love.

And remember, if you do need us, we’re always here to help.

Happy gardening 🍃
