My input on Mental Health Awareness Week !

Mental health impacts so many of our lives whether that be directly or indirectly.

I spent years struggling with my mental health and just not feeling like I was enough !

The story is long and it’s very sad but I feel it really was the making of me.

It means I can relate to many, I can hold space for others and I will never allow myself to slip back.
If anything starts to change and I feel the clouds coming in , I either change the situation or I take my foot off the gas and fill my cup.

As a health and fitness coach I feel I have a voice to share my opinion on what I believe.
The fitness industry has a negative part to play when it comes to people struggling with their mental health.

Social media is full of influencers and others glorifying unrealistic expectations. Some people seem to swop one unhealthy behaviour for another.

Using fitness as a form or punishment and dieting so hard to the point your menstrual cycle is impacted , criticising yourself and every inch of skin , feeling less than and not allowing yourself to be truly happy is a waste of time and energy. But most importantly can damage your mentally and physically…

To every woman out there please believe me when I say in these photos in my bikini I was unhappy , I had no interest in anything, I felt unattractive and had little confidence.
I was training twice a day most days , I was hungry and very strict with my food intake .
I was weak , tired and sad .

The photos now I am strong , fit , I can run a half marathon and enjoy it , I have a few pints now and again and I love my hot chocolate before bed!
I am
Capable !

It starts with you , begin loving yourself a little more each day and reach out and speak when you can .

The harsh reality is by doing things that make us uncomfortable, whether that be a physical, mental or emotional thing .. it builds strength , confidence and character.

By choosing hard things and showing up for myself I build trust within. I can rely on myself , it’s powerful .

This year I am taking on challenges to build my strength and become the next version of me !

Having muscle will create longevity and give me a life I am excited about.

So I choose hard and I choose strong 💪

So when Gracie asked me this ⬆️

I said , sometimes it’s good to choose hard things so you can get better and challenge yourself.
In .dozen I have to complete these and I hate them , they hurt . So I plan to get used to this so it’s expected and I won’t find them as bad .

She watched me complete a simulation today and counted my reps .

They are watching , let’s lead from the front ladies xx

As a coach but an ambassador for women I believe to be truly trusted I must lead from the front.

I KNOW that muscle is life, it’s the currency for a longer more healthily life but the thought of gaining weight scared me.

I know it does for many women I work with.
What made me start focusing on weights began when I read so much within my menopause qualification around why muscle helps you feel healthy and live longer.

It’s a battle when you are always fighting with what you did before, but I have to remind myself of what I want life to be and feel like.

Ive made friends with the scales and hardly weigh myself , I just go on look and shape.

My body looks more shapely and toned than it did 10 years ago and I feel stronger and more sexy.
For a woman in peri menopause I will take that.
My clothes fit nice and I feel great. I accept a bit of body fat and I feel proud of my muscle.

Because I know it works and I can see and feel the benefits of changing my training I want to share this and how the peices all come together. I want to educate you and every woman so they can feel in control and happy finally.

Well a lot !

But it all started with a different focus and attitude towards myself.

✅ I now eat for health and happiness
❌ I don’t restrict my calories

✅ I eat for fuel and make food I enjoy
❌ I don’t eat packet or processed food often

✅I fell in love with movement and activity
❌I no longer see exercise as a punishment

✅I rest and relax often
❌I no longer push through and say yes yes yes

✅I love what my body can do and I don’t focus on its flaws
❌ I no longer talk down to myself

Taking control of your mind isn’t easy but it will create a difference experience of life if you can .

You’re not lazy.

You’re not “falling off track”

But it does feel harder than it used to, doesn’t it?

The starts.

The stops.

The “I’ll be good Monday” cycle.

And then the frustration when your body doesn’t respond the same way it used to.

So you push harder…

Eat less…

Try to be more “disciplined”

And somehow end up feeling worse.

I remember thinking…

“When I get there, I’ll feel confident. Happy. Finally comfortable in myself.”

But when I did get there?

Nothing really changed.

I still picked myself apart.

Still felt uncomfortable in my own skin.

Still thought… “it’s not quite enough”
And that’s the part no one talks about—especially for women in midlife.

Because it’s not just about the weight.

It’s about how you see yourself and how you feel!

If that hasn’t shifted…

You’ll keep chasing a feeling that never quite lands.
The truth?

You don’t need another strict plan.

You need a different relationship with yourself.

You’re not stuck because you’re doing too little.

You might be stuck because you’re doing what used to work…

…but doesn’t anymore.

Perimenopause changes your body in ways no one really prepares you for.

Suddenly:
– The workouts that once energised you leave you drained
– You feel stiff no matter how much you “stretch”
– Progress feels slower (or non-existent)

So you push harder. Stay consistent. Do more.

And still… nothing shifts.

Here’s the truth most women aren’t told:
✨ Your body doesn’t need more pressure right now
✨ It needs better support

That’s where strength + proper stretching come in.

Not random workouts.

Not rushed routines.

But intentional movement that helps you:
✔ Build strength without burnout
✔ Improve mobility and reduce aches
✔ Feel more like yourself again
