The Twemlows Burghley Scholarship returns for 2026.

We are delighted to once again offer the scholarship at this year's Defender Burghley Horse Trials, supporting the breeding of the next generation of British sport horses from mares already proven at the highest level of competition.

The scholarship, comprising two embryo transfers with a value of approximately £8,000, will be awarded to the highest-placed British-domiciled mare finishing within the top 20 at Burghley.

Embryo Transfer provides owners with the opportunity to breed from elite competition mares without interrupting their competitive careers, allowing valuable performance bloodlines to contribute to future generations.

Previous mares whose owners have been awarded the opportunity include Kings Temptress, Classic Moet and Vanir Kamira, while the owners of Charlotte Opperman's Cavalier Crystal have been awarded the scholarship for the past three consecutive years.

With another exciting field heading to Burghley from 3rd–6th September, we look forward to seeing which mare will be awarded the opportunity in 2026

The hot, dry weather has made grazing increasingly limited, so the fields across the stud are supplied with ad-lib haylage to ensure our mares and foals continue to have constant access to quality forage. Our field feeders, better known around the yard as the "bus stops”, are topped up daily.

It is one of those behind-the-scenes parts of stud management many visitors never see. It plays an important role in supporting the health and maintaining the condition of the mares and foals.

It's not every day your veterinary team swaps scrubs for a parachute...

Last Thursday, our vets Taylor and Caoilfhionn, along with our Accounts Assistant Dan, took to the skies with Skydive Tilstock Freefall Club for a jump over Twemlows.

It was a fantastic opportunity to capture the stud from a completely different angle, with sweeping views across our facilities and the surrounding Shropshire countryside.

Back on the ground, the rest of the Twemlows team gathered to cheer them on at take-off and welcome them back after landing, making it a fantastic afternoon to enjoy together in the sunshine.

We recently delivered our 100th foal of the season at Twemlows.
