๐ Planning to watch the eclipse? Protect your eyes! ๐โ๏ธ
๐
A partial solar eclipse will be visible across the UK this Wednesday 12th August. Beginning at around 6:14pm, reaching its maximum at around 7:11pm and ending at approximately 8:05pm. ๐
Watching an eclipse is an amazing experience, but looking directly at the sun without the correct protection can cause serious and permanent damage to your eyesight.
โ๏ธ Never look directly at the sun, even when it is partially covered by the moon.
๐ถ๏ธ Ordinary sunglasses arenโt enough โ no matter how dark they are.
๐ฅฝ If viewing the eclipse directly, only use genuine eclipse glasses or solar viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 safety standard. Check them for scratches, holes or damage before use.
๐ท Donโt look at the sun through a camera, binoculars or telescope unless they have a suitable solar filter fitted to the front of the device. Eclipse glasses alone do not make this safe.
๐ง Keep an extra eye on children and make sure they understand how to use their eclipse glasses correctly.
๐ During the partial phases of an eclipse, eye protection must stay on whenever you look towards the sun.
Your eyes donโt have pain receptors that will warn you when retinal damage is occurring, so you may not realise anything is wrong until afterwards.
Enjoy the spectacle, but make sure you enjoy it safely! ๐โจ
