Happy Carers Week!

Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign that recognises the vital contribution made by millions of carers, many of whom provide unpaid care and support to others.

Today, our residents and colleagues took the opportunity to thank our own dedicated carers for the compassion, commitment and support they provide every day. Residents created handmade thank-you cards, all carers received a Sainsburys voucher and Kitchen Assistant baked some beautiful cupcakes for everyone to enjoy.

Sharing what they love most about their roles our colleagues said,

Senior Carer said:

"I love every part of my care role."

Carer added:

"I feel really appreciated at Sandstone Brook."

Carer and Workplace Induction Officer said:

"I love making a difference to a resident's day. I treat people like they are my own family."

Thank you to all our carers for the kindness, dedication and difference you make every single day. Your hard work and commitment are truly appreciated by residents, families and colleagues alike. ๐Ÿ’™

On Saturday, 6 June, we celebrated Butterfly Education and Awareness Day (BEAD) by releasing ten home-grown butterflies from our two Catalyst Stations.

Residents experienced great joy and excitement as they watched the remarkable transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. Butterflies symbolize life, transformation, and the beauty of nature. Their short yet impactful lives remind us of the importance of environmental stewardship and the value of every living creature.

National Butterfly Awareness Day, officially known as Butterfly Education and Awareness Day (BEAD), is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in June to promote butterfly conservation and education.

By participating in BEAD, individuals and communities can help protect butterfly populations, promote biodiversity, and foster a deeper appreciation for these delicate and vital insects. Our butterfly release provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to connect with nature while reflecting on the importance of caring for the environment for future generations.

National Fish & Chip Day is an annual celebration that honours the iconic British dish of fish and chips. As one of the country's most cherished culinary symbols, the occasion not only delights our taste buds but also celebrates the rich heritage and cultural significance of this beloved meal.

To mark the day, we organised a Fish & Chip Feast, courtesy of 'Gardiner's' ~ Traditional Fish n Chips, Whitchurch and our very own in-house Chef. The simple joy of sharing a meal of fish and chips created lasting memories, strengthened connections, and brought us all together for a truly enjoyable celebration.

Resident, Beth said, 'I used to own some Fish n Chip shops in the local area, we used to feel close to everyone in the Community and always had a lovely time with everyone who came in to buy a fish n chips for tea, those were the days'

๐Ÿฅ› Happy World Milk Day from Sandstone Brook, Whitchurch, Shropshire! ๐Ÿฅ›

Today, we celebrated World Milk Day, an annual event observed on 1st June that highlights the importance of milk in supporting health, nutrition, and communities around the world.

Shropshire is home to many family-run dairy farms renowned for their high-quality milk production and commitment to sustainable farming practices, making today especially meaningful for us.

Our talented Activities Team, Emma and Rebecca, treated residents to a homemade milkshake bar, with delicious flavours on the menu including:

๐Ÿซ Malteser โ€“ a tasty blend of chocolate and Ovaltine & Milk
๐Ÿ“ Summer Strawberry โ€“ made with fresh strawberries and creamy ice cream & Milk
๐ŸŒ Banana Split โ€“ bananas, cream, and vanilla & Milk
๐Ÿฆ Vanilla Cream โ€“ vanilla, ice cream, and syrup & Milk
๐Ÿฅœ Choco-Nut โ€“ chocolate and peanut butter & Milk
๐Ÿซ Double Chocolate โ€“ Nutella, ice cream, and cream & Milk

Residents enjoyed creating and sampling the different flavours while learning more about the significance of World Milk Day and the vital role the dairy industry plays in our everyday lives.

Itโ€™s all about keeping in touch ๐Ÿ’Œ

This week, we took the opportunity to design and make our own postcards to send to friends and family, some of whom are living out of county. Residents enjoyed getting creative with their designs, writing thoughtful messages, and even taking a walk to the post box to send them off ๐Ÿ“ฎ

Amanda from 'Live the Beat' recently joined us for a wonderful intergenerational session, bringing her passion for music and creativity to residents and children alike. Since 2016, Amanda has been delivering engaging classes that focus on educational learning and holistic development for both children and adults.

The session was attended by pupils from Malpas Alport Primary School, who brought immense fun, energy, and joy throughout the day alongside Amanda.

Intergenerational activities like these create meaningful opportunities for residents and younger generations to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. The exchange of perspectives fosters excitement, understanding, and companionship, while positively enhancing the atmosphere within the care home. Together, these moments help nurture a culture of inclusivity, happiness, and shared appreciation โ€” proving that we can all learn from each other, no matter our age.
