Our new collection boxes have arrived!

The kindness of our community and donors makes a huge difference to our charity and service users. We couldn't do it without your support!

All donations go towards enabling us to support people living with visual impairments across West Cumbria.

We are currently distributing our new collection boxes throughout West Cumbria. If you have a suitable location and would like one, or know someone who does, please let us know! 😊

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) glasses have arrived at our charity! 👓

We now have Ray‑Ban Meta (Gen 2) smart glasses available for demonstration, offering helpful features like voice control and hands‑free support for people living with sight loss.

These glasses offer features like spoken descriptions, voice commands and hands‑free access to information, offering practical support throughout the day.

You can try them in our Resource Centre on Lowther Street, Whitehaven, or if you are housebound our Vision Support Officer can bring them to you during a home visit. Please give us a call if you'd like to find out more information 🙂

We’re excited to share that our charity has a brand new website! 😊

You can now easily find information about the services and support we offer, along with plenty of helpful resources and our contact details.

The website also offers a Referral-In page, making it easier to contact us with a new enquiry.

We have designed the website with accessibility as a priority, making it easier for our service users to access the support they need. We will continue to develop and build the website over time.

We would love to know your views on our website or if you can think of any information or features you would like it to have. Please let us know!

Copeland Talking News (CTN) have advised that this week’s edition of the audio newspaper, The Talking Whitehaven News, will not be issued due to unforeseen circumstances. So, we just wanted to make all the listeners aware!

If you know anyone who uses this service, please pass on the update so they’re aware there will be no audio newspaper edition this week 🙂

Many thanks to Alan Cleaver and his wife, Leslie, for joining our Whitehaven Social Group today. Alan is a local author and led a really interesting talk about one of his books, "The Postal Paths", which included Cumbria's Postal Paths. Our members really enjoyed today's group 😊

Our Whitehaven Social Group takes place on the third Tuesday of each month. They are filled with friendly chats, refreshments and guest speakers.

If you would like to find out more about our social groups, or know of someone who might benefit from coming along, please contact us on 01946 592474 or email [email protected]

We have some exciting news

We are delighted to announce the new name of our charity, chosen by you!

🌟Sight Support West Cumbria 🌟

Previously known as West Cumbria Society for the Blind, we would like to thank all of our service users who responded to our name change consultations and provided feedback and suggestions. We have only been able to make this change through your input and support!

We think that the new name better reflects the work we do and hope that it will help us reach more people seeking support.

We have exciting plans to grow our charity and deliver new services, but we will continue to offer the same high level of support to people living with visual impairments in West Cumbria.

We are very grateful to Mark Andrews, who kindly visited our charity this morning to present a cheque for £500 from The Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children's Fund.

We really appreciate their ongoing support of our charity and activities. Please use the link above to find out more about their charity and the causes they support.

This donation will help us to continue to provide much-needed services for people with visual impairments across West Cumbria.

Thank you!

Yesterday we attended the Cumberland Council's Social Prescribing Day at Maryport Library.

Events like this are a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the wide range of local services available to support you and your community.

We really enjoyed chatting with everyone about what we do and the support we can offer. It was also a brilliant chance to connect with other organisations and services we can refer our clients to — helping ensure they receive all available support 😊
