I have been a member of the Association of Reflexologists for over 15 years. Reflexology is a complimentary therapy that involves working on the feet to help balance the whole person rather then specific symptoms. The gentle therapy will encourage the body to naturally work to restore a healthy balance. Reflexology reduces stress by generating deep tranquil relaxation, helping the body restore its
balance and allowing itself to heal. It cleanses the body of toxins and impurities, stimulates the lymphatic system reducing the risk of infection and stimulates production of endorphins, the feel good hormone. Reflexology revitalises energy by relaxing and opening up the energy pathways. Without an interruption of stress patterns, growth and development can be hampered as our body’s resistance to illness and disease breaks down and we become more susceptible to infection and stress. Stress has been identified as a major contributor to chronic illness. Illness occurs when improper instructions are being sent by the brain to an organ by the way of the reflexes. Focused pressure application can be used to gain the response one is seeking. A pattern of applying Reflexology techniques interrupts stress and conditions and therefore can teach the body to respond/behave in a healthier more effective way. There is a relationship between stress and the immune system. If stress hormones are elevated the hormone cortisol destroys the healthy immune cells that fight viruses and tumours. If you can reverse and/or reduce stress hence reduce stress hormones, you allow the immune system to bounce back and do its thing, which is heal and protect and maintain health.
