💜 How are you feeling on the most depressing day of the year? 💜

I’ve had next to no sleep; the baby is going through a sleep regression phase and my eldest has just spent the last hour shouting into her microphone.

However rubbish you feel, there will be something that makes you smile. You just might need to search a little harder some days than others.

💜 Labour doesn’t always follow the same pattern as the first. I was expecting my waters to break and then have time to eat, sleep and prepare the pool before my first surge. In reality, my waters broke when the baby’s head was coming out which was when my husband phoned the midwife.

💜 Labour can be much quicker the second time around. The cervix and birth canal have already been stretched, allowing for faster dilation and a shorter pushing stage. Fortunately, I knew this could be the case and got the pool up nice and early.

💜 Healing can take longer postpartum with your second baby. This is because abdominal and pelvic floor muscles are weaker and more stretched after having a second baby. Uterine muscles are also stretched a little more, sometimes creating after pains when going back to its normal size. This is the time to get family to support in whichever way they can. Fortunately, I have a husband who cooks so I was able to eat well and get some rest immediately after birth.

She’s arrived! Born in the early hours of Monday morning, Dorothy made her entrance into the world. Another positive birth experience at home in the pool.

After having a few niggles last night, I thought it might be time to put the pool up ready.

Tonight I’ll be teaching session 3 of the course to some wonderful clients and they may have more of a hands on experience than they anticipated!
