Widnes Duck Hunt Appeals for Support Following Unexpected Defibrillator Replacement Costs
The Widnes Duck Hunt was established to raise funds for Defibrillator #50 in partnership with Aidan's Fundraising for Community Defibrillators.
Following an announcement from the charity this week, organisers are now encouraging the community to support a new fundraising appeal after unexpected maintenance issues have created a significant financial challenge.
In a statement, Aidan's Fundraising for Community Defibrillators explained:
"We are dealing with some maintenance issues due to problems with suppliers (as a result of manufacturing issues) and it is looking more likely that several of our defibrillators will need to be updated with new ones. The cost of this is definitely unexpected and more than the anticipated cost of replacing pads and batteries. We have been offered a trade-in option for five of our defibrillators, but the cost for each one is Β£710 + VAT (Β£852), meaning we need to find Β£4,260 to take up the trade-in offer."
While the Widnes Duck Hunt remains committed to funding Defibrillator #50, organisers have always intended that any additional funds raised could also support future community defibrillator projects and unexpected costs such as these.
The appeal highlights the ongoing financial commitment required to keep publicly accessible defibrillators available and operational. These devices save lives, but they also require continued investment to maintain and replace them when necessary.
Organisers are now asking local residents, businesses and community groups to consider how they can help. Whether that's by organising a fundraising event, making a donation or sharing the appeal, every contribution will make a difference.
As an example, if everyone following The Widnes Duck Hunt donated just Β£2βless than the cost of a cup of coffeeβit would raise enough to fund the replacement of around two additional defibrillators, alongside the campaign to install Defibrillator #50.
Anyone with fundraising ideas or who would like to support the appeal is encouraged to get in touch. Together, the community can help ensure these vital, life-saving devices remain available when they are needed most.
