HOW CAN SPORTS MASSAGE HELP YOU? 💆🏻‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We all know that strengthening is the key. 💪🏻

Building strength and gradually increasing your muscles’ capacity is one of the most effective ways to help your body tolerate the demands you place on it.

But life isn’t always that simple.

Stress, repetitive movements at work, looking after young children and other life factors can all contribute to feelings of muscle tension and discomfort, and these are often things we can’t simply avoid.

That’s where hands-on treatment can have a valuable role.

Sports massage can help with muscle soreness, perceived tension and relaxation, helping some people manage their symptoms while they continue doing the things that life requires.

It’s not a replacement for exercise or strengthening, think of it as one tool in the toolbox. 🛠️

One of the biggest myths about ankle sprains is that they just need rest.

In the early days, relative rest and gradual loading are important, but rehab shouldn't stop when the pain settles.

Ankle sprains also affect proprioception (your body's awareness of where the joint is in space), which is why balance and stability often feel off long after the injury.

That's why balance training and strengthening are essential parts of rehab. They help restore stability, reduce the risk of another sprain, preventing long term issues.

Nothing beats getting messages like these after race day. 🏊🚴🏃

I'm loving working with athletes who aren't just recovering from injury, but training to perform at their very best. My focus is helping people move beyond recovery and optimise their body so they can train harder, recover better, and perform with confidence.

These incredible finish times are a testament to the athletes themselves. They've put in the dedication, consistency, and hard work, I've just been lucky enough to be part of the journey.

Whether you're preparing for your next triathlon, marathon, Hyrox, cycling event, or simply want to get more from your sport, treatment isn't just about fixing injuries. It's about keeping you performing at your best.

We’re opening up more evening and weekend appointments soon to make it easier to fit treatment around your training 👀

Watch this space. 💪

You might have been told that it would be dangerous for you to deadlift, particularly if you’ve had a back injury before.

But here’s the thing, deadlifts aren’t inherently bad for your back. In fact, they’re one of the best exercises for building strength and resilience.

The issue isn’t the exercise, it’s asking your body to do more than it’s currently prepared for.

If bending down to lift from the floor feels difficult or painful, it doesn’t mean you’ll never deadlift. It just means you need to meet your body where it is.

That might mean:
✅ Lifting from a higher surface instead of the floor
✅ Using lighter weights
✅ Reducing the range of motion
✅ Gradually increasing the challenge over time

Your body adapts to what you ask of it. Start with what you can do, build capacity, and let your confidence and strength grow from there.

Don’t avoid deadlifts because they look intimidating. Find the version that’s right for you today, and build from there.🏋🏻

The best exercise for runners…👀

Only joking, there isn’t one single best exercise.

The key to staying strong and reducing your risk of injury is a varied strength and conditioning routine that builds strength, control, balance, and resilience.

One of my favourite exercises? The single-leg deadlift. 💪🏻🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️

Why I love it:
✅ Trains each leg independently (essential for runners!)
✅ Builds strength and stability through the hips
✅ Challenges balance and control
✅ Highlights any side to side differences that might need a little extra attention

If you’re a runner and you’re not already including these in your routine, give them a go. They can be a great addition to help you run stronger and stay injury-free.

Have you tried single-leg deadlifts before? Let me know how you get on 👇🏻

Is it really ‘no pain, no gain?’🤔

I seem to have built a bit of a reputation for some of my treatments being… let’s say, memorable! 😅 I’m not afraid to use firm pressure when it’s appropriate.

That said, I try to avoid the phrase ‘no pain, no gain.’ Pain isn’t a requirement for progress, and if anything feels too uncomfortable, just let me know, we can ease off or stop at any time.

The aim of hands on treatment is often to help modulate pain, improve blood flow, and reduce muscle tension. A little discomfort can sometimes be part of that process, but it should feel like a ‘good sore’, not something you can’t tolerate.

If you can breathe through it, we’ll probably have a laugh along the way too. I wouldn’t use that level of pressure if I didn’t think it was going to help.

Every treatment is tailored to you, because getting you moving and feeling better is always the goal 💪🏻.

Short answer… No.

Your shoulder is designed to move into a large range of motion, including overhead.

Problems can arise when the shoulder is asked to do more than it’s ready for.

Overhead exercises place higher demands on the muscles and tendons that stabilise and move your shoulder. If you suddenly increase the weight, volume or frequency, these tissues may become irritated because they haven’t had time to adapt.

Sometimes training habits can also contribute. If your programme is heavily focused on pushing exercises (such as bench press, shoulder press and press-ups) without enough pulling and upper back work, it can affect how your shoulder functions and increase the load on certain structures.

That doesn’t mean overhead lifting is harmful, it just means your training needs to be balanced and progressed sensibly.

✅ Build load gradually.
✅ Include variety in your training.
✅ Listen to your symptoms and adjust if needed.

The aim isn’t to avoid overhead movements, it’s to build a shoulder that’s strong enough to cope with them 💪🏻.
