An amber heat-health alert has been issued for Humber and North Yorkshire and is in place until 9pm on Friday 14 August.

Please take care by staying hydrated, keeping cool, avoiding the hottest part of the day where possible, and checking in on anyone who may be more vulnerable.

An amber heat-health alert is in place across parts of England from today until 14 August.

During an amber alert, hot weather can put more people’s health at risk – not just those who are usually more vulnerable.

Older people, young children and people with existing health conditions may be particularly at risk.

Take extra care and look out for others who may struggle in the heat.

NHS Humber Health Partnership are doing some essential works to replace and reinforce the flooring in the Majors unit of our HRI Accident and Emergency Department 🏣

We’re doing some essential works to replace and reinforce the flooring in the Majors unit of our HRI Accident and Emergency Department.
The works will start today and it’s estimated that they will take seven to eight weeks to complete.
What that means is that while the service is still operating as normal, the Majors team will be temporarily based in ward H36, which is slightly smaller than the area they usually occupy.
Please don’t be concerned. If you need us, we are here for you – and you can continue to access the service by coming to the Emergency Department as normal. Signage is also in place to help you get to where you need to be.
What we do ask is that if there are alternative services which could be better placed to meet your needs – such as the Urgent Treatment Centre, your GP or Pharmacist – that you do this in the first instance so that we can prioritise A&E for those in greatest need.
Thank you for your support and apologies for any disruption as a result of these essential works.

A pilot transport initiative aimed at improving access to specialist healthcare has been introduced for North Yorkshire residents who need to travel to The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

From Monday 13 July, the in-house transport team will launch a transport service for anyone living in North Yorkshire attending appointments or visiting a relative receiving care at James Cook Hospital.

This initiative will run for a three-month trial period, from Monday to Friday.

Buses will be departing from Friarage Hospital’s main entrance and arriving at James Cook’s north entrance. A fare of £10 will apply to both single and return journeys.

The service is designed to provide an affordable travel option for those living in rural and surrounding areas, who may not qualify for free patient transport or who find public transport unsuitable.

Operating as a return journey, the transport service will allow individuals travelling from Friarage to James Cook to return on the transport later the same day. The fare remains £10 whether travelling one way or making a return journey.

Booking Information

Bookings can be made by patients or their carers by calling the transport hotline on 01642838877 between Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

This dedicated number has been established specifically for this shuttle service and cannot be used for other transport bookings.
