❌ Myth: athletes always have to play through pain - false. Training or competing with a hand injury can prolong healing and turn minor issues into bigger problems; listening to your body and getting early care shows strength and helps you stay active long-term.

☀️ With sunny days and warmer temperatures on the way, if your hands feel stiffer, puffier, or sorer, you’re not imagining it. Heat causes blood vessels to widen and fluid to collect in tissues, which can increase discomfort - especially if you already have joint pain or arthritis.
💡 Simple ways to ease hand pain in warm weather:
✅ Stay hydrated: dehydration can make symptoms worse
✅ Keep hands cool: try cool water or a damp cloth
✅ Move gently: keep fingers active to prevent stiffness
✅ Elevate when possible: to help reduce swelling
✅ Avoid overuse: give your hands regular breaks

Small tweaks can make a big difference so you can still enjoy the sunshine. ☀️ If pain is persistent or getting worse, get professional advice.

Surgeries such as tendon repair or finger reattachment often cause the brain to reorganise how it manages movement and touch. Even when the hand looks fully recovered, patients typically have to relearn motion and sensation - a striking example of brain plasticity.

Injuries can affect much more than physical performance. Staying connected with teammates and feeling supported during recovery can make a huge difference to confidence, motivation, and mental wellbeing. Strong teams look after each other 💚🏏

Cricket is more than just a game 🏏 This Mental Health Awareness Week, remember that being part of a club means looking out for each other, on and off the field. A quick check-in, a conversation, or simply being there for someone can make all the difference 💚

For injured players especially, time away from the game can feel isolating. Missing matches, training, and time with teammates can have a real impact on mental wellbeing, as well as physical recovery.

That’s why supporting injured teammates matters. Keep them involved, check in regularly, celebrate the small recovery wins, and remind them they’re still part of the team 🫶

Recovery isn’t just physical - and no player should go through it alone.
