The Fertility Formula

As the name suggests, TCM was developed in China thousands of years ago and has evolved to be the medical practice that is used today. The Chinese theory of health diagnosis is very different to a Western approach and is founded on the principles of balancing Yin and Yang, and establishing a smooth flow of Qi and blood around the body and organs. Illness occurs when there is an imbalance of Yin an

d Yang and a stagnation of Qi and/ blood. Many factors can contribute to this imbalance, including stress and emotions. TCM combines the emotional and physical elements of an illness and seeks to treat both. I have found over many years of practice in my clinic, that almost every patient I see has some degree of emotional factor involved in their health. TCM is excellent at helping to resolve these emotional symptoms. There is a beautiful poetry behind the theory of TCM but I love it most because it looks at all aspects of the patient’s health, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual. So whilst most of the country is getting excited about the World Cup football matches, I know that you are silently dreading watching your partner celebrate a goal at 11pm with a few beers, because today is also ovulation day.

The World Cup is going to cause havoc with lots of women’s fertility plans, so here are my thoughts on how you can approach this to gain a bit of calm, control back.

Ideally have a calm, gentle conversation with him about your worries. Or maybe send him this post for a subtle nudge in the right direction.

I have a free download, “From Good to Great Sperm” if you’d like a bit more information and reassurance.

I’m not going to apologise for using the words ‘period flow’ out in public.

There is nothing more natural than the monthly cycle of your body, yet we often cringe when it’s mentioned outloud. But, if you’re trying to conceive, I bet that you’ve googled ‘are my periods normal’.

It’s one of the most common things I hear from women I work with in my cheshire acupuncture clinic and also from women around the world who find me on youtube. The underlying worrying is always the same: Are my periods ok and what does it mean for my fertility?

From a Western perspective, heavier periods can often link to things like fibroids, adenomyosis or an oestrogen imbalance. Lighter periods can reflect lower oestrogen levels, the hormone that builds your uterine lining. These are all things which can be addressed both by western medicine and TCM

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), patterns like Blood Deficiency or Qi Deficiency give us an understanding what the body is asking for and how to support it.

The most useful thing you can do to understand your periods and cycle, is to stop googling endlessly and start monitoring what your body is telling you, for at least 3 months.

If you’d like me to explain a little more about this, please download my free guide, Read Your Body’s Fertile Signals, which is waiting for you in the link in bio.

If you’re going through IVF, this one’s for you...

I’ve recently put together an IVF Support Bundle, which includes four TCM acupuncture treatments designed around the key moments in your cycle, when your body and mind need the most support.

Here’s what’s included:

✨ Initial consultation & treatment
✨ Pre-transfer treatment (1–3 days before)
✨ Post-transfer treatment (1–3 days after)
✨ Two-week wait treatment

All for £230, with no expiry date. If your cycle is delayed or things shift, we simply pick up again when you’re ready. If you want to add more treatments we can do that too, at the usual price of £65.

IVF can be expensive, exhausting and emotionally relentless. This bundle is my way of making it a little easier to stay supported throughout.

The full details and how to book are on the website (link in bio)

I’ve been thinking about writing this post for a while.

Many of you know that my journey into acupuncture began because of my own fertility struggles. What fewer people know is that the menopause hasn’t been an easy journey for me either.

Over the last few years I’ve had to navigate finding the right balance of HRT, supplements, lifestyle changes and acupuncture. There were times when I didn’t feel like myself at all. Like many women, I experienced more than just hot flushes or poor sleep. There was brain fog, anxiety, low mood and a real sense of losing confidence in who I was.

I haven’t spoken about it much because, just like my fertility journey, I wasn’t ready to share it while I was still going through it.

But now that I’m feeling more like myself again, (thank you ) I keep thinking about all the women who may be struggling in silence. Your mum, sister, friend, colleague or perhaps you.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, menopause isn’t seen as a problem to be fixed. It’s a natural transition. Acupuncture aims to support your body through that transition, helping to ease symptoms and restore balance.

Many women choose acupuncture alongside HRT, particularly for symptoms such as sleep problems, anxiety and brain fog. Others prefer to try acupuncture before exploring other options.

If you’re going through something similar, or perhaps someone you care about, please know that support is available and you don’t have to struggle through it alone. There’s more information on my website or just send me a DM.

If you’ve been thinking about getting some at home blood tests done for your fertility, you can now get 20% off using my code EVERY-LOTUS20 AND at the same time, unlock a 20% discount off your entry to The Everywoman festival.

Now that’s a pretty good deal right?!

I’ve personally done my own blood tests with Hertility (and a follow up appointment with one of their in-house experts) and can honestly say it was a lot less stressful than trying to arrange blood tests with my GP on the right day of my cycle.

Why do we just assume that we have to put up with excruciating period pain - every month?

Period pain is one of the most consistently dismissed experiences in women’s health. I’ve seen women in my acupuncture clinic who suffer so much pain that they’re physically sick, or pass out. EVERY MONTH! Even though this can be common, it is most definitely NOT NORMAL.

In this carousel I’ve shared the Western medical picture (primary vs secondary dysmenorrhoea, and when to investigate) alongside the Traditional Chinese Medicine view. Sometimes understanding things from a different viewpoint can give a new way in which to approach the problem.

Your period is information (even if it’s embarrassing to talk about). Understanding it changes how you relate to it.

Save this or send it to someone you know who’s struggling. And if you want to learn more, my free guide ‘Read Your Body’s Fertile Signals’ walks you through what every phase of your cycle is communicating. Link in bio.

What if doing less was actually the most strategic thing you could do right now?

I know how hard it is to hear “just relax.” I’ve been there. And when you’re in the middle of a fertility journey, resting feels like the last thing you should be doing.

But here’s what I’ve seen in nearly 20 years of clinic work: the women who create space for calm, who give their bodies permission to shift out of survival mode often start to notice things changing.

This isn’t about passive waiting. It’s about understanding the biology.

Research suggests that when cortisol is chronically elevated, it may affect the balance of your reproductive hormones and your body may not be in the state that best supports conception.

If you’re at the point of fertility burnout - exhausted, overwhelmed and running on empty, my free Calm Reset Guide is a good place to start. It’s a practical tool for finding calm on the fertility journey. Download it free via the link in bio.

If you’re ready for a deeper, more structured plan, The Fertility Formula brings together everything I know about TCM and Western fertility guidance into one step-by-step programme. Also linked in bio.

Any advice I share is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult your doctor before making changes to your care

When you’re trying to conceive, not knowing what’s going on with your hormones can be one of the most frustrating feelings. Especially when it’s tricky to get a blood test booked with the doctor on the right day of your cycle (if you even know when that is!).

But don’t lose hope, there is a way to get clarity in a less stressful way, on your terms, in your own time. Take a look at the Hertility At Home Advanced Hormone & Fertility test. It’s simple and easy to do and a few days later you can book in with an in-house expert to talk you through your results. Your fertility journey starts with knowing. 🌿

As a TCM Fertility Acupuncturist I’m always talking to my patients about nourishing, warm foods and you’ve probably heard me recommending chicken bone broth.

It’s something I personally have every day and it’s super easy to add into your diet. The tastes lovely, it’s warming and genuinely good for you.

If you want to try, there’s a link in bio with a little discount for you too ✨
